HORNIKEL & MOREHOUSE LOG HILLTOP WINS; POTTS POCKETS TRUCK BUCKS
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, July 10, 2010
By Mike Swanger

Another beautiful night for racing saw the grandstands full of fans and 131 cars filling the pits of Hilltop Speedway Saturday night with the Circle Track Mini Trucks being the featured class of the evening. Ken Duncan grabbed the lead on the 1st lap of the Truck race with Sunbury's Kevin Potts taking over on the next circuit. Potts and his Proscape Landscaping and KP-n-Deb racing #8k truck would build up a huge lead and left the rest of the field to battle for position. Jerry Gardner would replace Duncan in second on lap six but could not chase down Potts. Points leader Rolly Heyder moved into third on lap eight and then it was a five way battle for the remaining top five places between Duncan, Dave Potts, Dustin Miller, Wally Wallace and Scott Gray. Dave Potts took control of fourth with three laps to go as Dustin Miller followed him into fifth for his first top five finish. Jack and John Large won the heat races.
Mansfield's Dave Hornikel picked up right where he left off last week as he won the dash and started on the pole of the feature and then held off an early charge by JR Gentry to post his second win in a row and third in the last four races for the Super Late Models aboard the Imperial Truck Refinishing, Deschner's Pizza & Drive Thru, Fultz Fabrication #71. Gentry ran second as fast qualifier George Lee and Wayne Maffett Jr. went back and forth for third with Lee winning out and West Virginia drivers Tyler Carpenter beating out Lance Elson for fifth. Brad Moore, Larry Holbrook and points leader Charlie Duncan topping the heats as Randy Pollock secured the last chance race.
Kevin Morehouse of Hanover beat dash winner Norm Aronhalt into turn one and then kept him at bay to park the Steve Roberts Excavating, Napa Auto Parts, and Morehouse Logging #28 in the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modified victory circle for the ninth time this year. Todd Brennan and Rick Mardis raced hard for third but a slip with five laps to go by Brennan allowed fast qualifier Gary Clark and Robin Dustin to finish fourth and fifth. Matt Samples, Nick Smith, and Dustin bested the heats with Jeff Dovenbarger and Tim Opliger pacing the two last chance races.
Brandon Gardner was hounded by points leader Todd Swim all race long but the Perrysville based Maibach Ford and L & L Motors #27g picked up his third Street Stock win of the season and his Hilltop Speedway high 26th career win since 2006. The race ended just in time for Gardner as a valve broke in the engine just as he crossed the finish line. John Wilson ended up third as 11th starting Jose Marsh claimed fourth while Darrell Mayer flew to fifth from his 15th starting position. Swim, Gardner, and Kevin Sharier posted the heat wins as Kenny Daughriety Jr. captured the last chance race.
It was a father-son duel in the Holmes Tire Mini Stock main as it was back and forth between dad, Terry and son Brett with son winning his first feature by less then a car length at the finish line. The Killbuck drivers had no room for mistakes as points leader Jordan James and Jerry Adkins was right on the leaders trunk lids with James squeezing into third at the line. Mitch Ling filled out the top five. Terry and Jerry Adkins and James scored the heat wins.
Changing position on every lap, four youngsters had a chance to win the Mini Wedge feature as Newark's Tanner Johnson was in third as the white flag waved but the 10 year old powered his way past Cole Lillibridge and Blake Morris on the last lap to grab his third win of the year aboard the #25. Heat winner Cole Lillibridge hung on to second in front of Morris as 1st timer Chase Osborne was a close fourth with Triston Lillibridge rounding out the top five.
A regular show with all six class' will be on the racing card for Saturday, July 17th and it will be Driver Autograph night with fans able to go into the pits after qualifying to get autographs from the drivers.

HORNIKEL 1st TWO TIME WINNER IN HILLTOP'S LATE MODELS

Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, July 3, 2010
By Mike Swanger

Another big crowd packed into Hilltop Speedway to watch a season high 113 cars put on a sizzling show on Tim Hawkins Logging and Susan's Footwear & Fashion night that also honored all past and present military people on hand. Mansfield's Dave Hornikel went side by side with dash winner Jeremy Canada for the first six laps of the Super Late Model feature and using the high groove was able to take control at that point and open up a two car length lead over Canada. Behind them was a three way battle for third with Jason Flory, Ryan Markham, and Wayne Maffett Jr. using every inch of the track for position. Just past the halfway mark, Flory worked his way past Canada for second and closed in on Hornikel. A caution with two laps to go for Doug Eaton bunched the field together and on the restart, Flory made one last dive to the bottom to swipe the lead away but came up short as the Imperial Truck Refinishing, Deschner's Pizza & Drive Thru, and Fultz Fabrication # 71 of Hornikel held him off and become the first Super Late Model driver to win two features this year at Hilltop. Canada held on to third as Maffett Jr. edged past Markham at the finish line for fourth. Brad Moore won the last chance race with points leader Charlie Duncan, Maffett Jr., and Wes Hutchinson scoring heat wins.
Pulling into the pits with a brand new Diamond racecar, seven time winner Kevin Morehouse didn't miss a beat as the Hanover driver led all the way in the caution filled Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modified main for his eighth win of the year and 22nd win at Hilltop. Starting beside points leader and dash winner George Lee, Morehouse and his Morehouse Logging, Roberts Excavating, and Sam's Used Cars # 28 would build up a four car length lead on Lee, who had Hilton Eppley putting the pressure on for the second spot all race long. Randy Gray and Matt Samples both had top five runs going but each caused a caution late in the race that would allow Rick Mardis, who was in the mix of things for top five to finish fourth. After being charged with an opening lap caution, fast qualifier Gary Clark came from 18th to grab fifth. Brandon Russell topped the last chance race with Gray, Mardis and Ryan West claiming the heat wins.
Brandon Gardner withstood the early charge of Kenny Daughriety Jr. and then cruise away in the Perrysville based Maichbach Ford and L & L Motors #27g for his second Street Stock win this season and 25th overall at Hilltop. Daughriety Jr. spent the whole race battling off Donna Canode, points leader Todd Swim and Darrell Mayer to finish a season best second. Mayer picked off Swim on lap ten for fourth and then moved past Canode with three to go for third. Last chance winner, Jose Marsh started 16th and finished sixth as heat winners were Daughriety Jr., Gardner, and Canode.
By winning the heat races, it was an all Adkins front row starting positions for the Holmes Tire Mini Stock feature and when the checkered flag flew, Killbuck's Terry Adkins putting the # 49a into the victory circle for the first time this season as he beat Jerry Adkins by a straightaway. Jerry had to wheel and deal with points leader Jordan James and Mike Rose all race as those three would finish in that order with another Adkins, Brett, filling out the top five.
After starting the season out with two wins, Galena's Rolly Heyder returned to victory lane in the Circle Track Mini Truck feature. It may have been a little motivation for the driver of the Jack Maxton Parts, All City Auto Wrecking, and Rader Collision #10 as his mother watched for the first time ever. Tom Garlick gave Heyder some competition early on as Jerry Gardner would replace Garlick in second on lap seven, who would drop another spot on the next circuit to John Large. Kevin Potts and Scott Gray would take Garlick out of the top five with three laps to go as they finished in that order. Posting the heat wins were Heyder and Gardner.
Making his first visit to Hilltop, Londonberry's Joel Richendollar and his Custom Machine and Sports Plus #02 Mini Wedge edged out two time winner Dakota Wyer at the line for the win. Cole Lillibridge, Melanie Bryan, and Triston Lillibridge rounded out the top five.
All divisions will be in action next Saturday, July 10th with the Mini Truck Invitational being the featured class.

Chaney gets last lap, last corner pass for Ohio Speedweek win in front of hometown crowd at Hilltop

MILLERSBURG, Ohio – Rob Chaney passed David Gravel exiting turn four coming to the checkered flag to score the 40-lap victory Tuesday for night #5 of O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek, leaving the huge hometown crowd at Hilltop Speedway all abuzz.  “I didn’t even know I won. When I passed Tim Shaffer (on lap 32 of the 40-lap affair for third), I knew I was close to the front. This is awesome to do this in front of my family and friends. Bryan Grove and the crew gave me a great car tonight. I just had to be patient and save the tires,” said Chaney, who started eighth and utilized the high groove around the high-banked little track.  “I feel bad for David (Gravel) to get that close and not get the win…it’s heartbreaking. I know, I’ve been there before,” added Chaney beside his Canton Erectors backed #45.

It marked Chaney’s third career All Star victory. In fact, Chaney didn’t become a threat for the win until a lap 27 restart when he drove from sixth into fourth. Chaney worked on defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer the next four laps before driving under him in turn two to take third. Tyler Walker was the next victim in Chaney’s march to the front, and he drove around him in turns three and four and into second with four to go. As leader David Gravel, from Watertown, Conn., who will celebrate his 18th birthday Wednesday, took the white flag, Chaney was on his rear bumper. Gravel drove low in turns three and four, his engine sputtering as his machine ran low on fuel. Chaney would blast to the outside and the two raced side-by-side out of turn four with Chaney’s momentum carrying him to the win. “I ran out of fuel here again. This is the third time I’ve been here and the second time I’ve run out of fuel…it’s just so disappointing. I had this one won. My car was just so good on the bottom. With about five laps to go, the engine began sputtering… I just couldn’t believe it,” said dejected Gravel beside his DDR Motorsports, P&M Transportation, Hometown Wheels backed #89G. “At least this time I finished the race.”

Los Angeles, California’s Tyler Walker would lead the first 10 laps before Gravel would drive under him for the top spot. Walker would fight back to regain the lead on lap 13 as he and Gravel thrilled the crowed with their side-by-side, slide job trading racing. Walker would run in the top three throughout the race and would bring the Keen Motorsports #17 home in third at the end. “We have not run these Goodyear tires much and we haven’t raced on slick tracks like this so my crew and I have had a steep learningcurve. My hats off to my guys…they have worked their tails off to change this thing around…we’re figuring it out,” said Walker beside his Peterbuilt, Hunter’s Truck Sales backed #17.  “I lost this one…I burned the tires off way too early. I have to learn to be more patient. My thanks to the Keens for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to resurrect my career,” added Walker.

The race got off to a slow start, with one lap complete, Cole Duncan and Todd Kane got together in turn one to bring out the caution. Outside front row starter Walker would blast into the lead on the restart with Texan Gary Wright, Gravel, NASCAR driver Dave Blaney, Matthew Reed and Dean Jacobs in tow. The caution would fly on lap 9, just as the leaders were hitting the back of the field. Another quick yellow, and Walker would use the clear track to jump back into the lead, but not for long. Gravel, who moved around Wright into second on lap 9, woulddrive to Walker’s inside exiting turn four on lap 11 to take the lead with Blaney getting around Wright for third on lap 10. Walker would drive the high line to regain the lead on lap 13 as he and Gravel continued to race side-by-side with Blaney closing. The leaders would catch lapped traffic on lap 18, and the “Connecticut Kid” would use one as a pick to regain the lead. Blaney would show his old sprint car racing form to drive under Walker into second at the halfway mark, but “Tee dub” would retake the runner-up position on lap 22.

The action would slow on lap 26 for a Greg Wilson, Matthew Reed collision. On the ensuing restart, Dave Blaney would drive into the turn two guardrail, putting his #55 on its lid and ending his great run. The running order was now Gravel, Walker, Dean Jacobs, 9th starter Tim Shaffer, Gary Wright and Chaney. When the green flew again, Shaffer would blast into third, with Chaney driving from sixth into fourth. Thecar on the move was Brandon Wimmer who started 19th and was not 7th. Gavel would continue to lead, with Walker and Shaffer racing each other hard for second with Chaney waiting to pounce. Chaney would wait to take third on lap 32 as Gavel was mired in traffic, allowing Walker, Chaney and Shaffer to close. With five laps to go, Chaney would drive around Walker into second. As Gravel raced under the flags with just two laps remaining, Chaney quickly closed with Walker and Shaffer right there as well. Gravel would take the white flag with Chaney glued to his rear bumper while Walker stuck his nose under Chaney for second with Shaffer in the mix. As Gravel dove to the bottom of turns three and four one final time, Chaney would slingshot around the top to race to the win. Gravel, Walker, Shaffer and Dean Jacobs would round out the top five.

MOREHOUSE MASTERS HILLTOP'S MODIFIEDS

After watching the All Star Sprints put on a dazzling feature, the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modifieds put on a sizzling show of their own as Hanover's Kevin Morehouse posted his 7th win of the season at Hilltop. Hilton Eppley and two time winner Norm Aronhalt started on the front row and for the first two circuits would stay side by side until Aronhalt edged into the lead. In that time span, Morehouse climbed to third from his sixth starting position with Richard Michaels, Jesse Wisecarver and Anthony Kincaid all bunched together for fourth and on Morehouse's bumper. Wisecarver slipped past Michaels on lap three and pull alongside Morehouse for third and following a caution on lap seven, both would get by Eppley for second on lap eight with Michaels putting Eppley back to fifth the next circuit. Just past halfway, Morehouse and Wisecarver had reeled in Aronhalt and it became three wide for the lead and using the middle of the track, Morehouse and his Morehouse Logging, Steve Roberts Excavating, NAPA Auto Parts #28 squeezed into the top spot. All this time Rick Aukland had worked his way from his ninth starting place and with six to go, had worked his way to fourth. A lap 15 caution gave everyone a chance to catch their breath, and when the green flag waved again, Aronhalt made one last run at Morehouse as Aukland slipped past Wisecarver for third. When the checkered flag flew, Morehouse crossed the line by less than a car length edge on Aronhalt with Aukland and Wisecarver on his bumper as Michaels held on to fifth. Eppley, Aronhalt, and Michaels from New York captured the heat wins as Matt Samples topped the last chance race.
Racing will continue Saturday night, June 26th at Hilltop Speedway with all six regular class' in action.

MAFFETT, ARONHALT, CANODE, JAMES, & WYER LEAD THE WAY TO HILLTOP CHECKERS
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, June 19, 2010
By Mike Swanger

On the warmest night of the season, a strong field of cars took to the well groomed racing surface of Hilltop Speedway on Snyder Brothers Sales & Service night. Wayne Maffett Jr. slipped past fellow Mansfielder Dave Hornikel on the last lap of the dash to start the Super Late Model feature on the pole. The Adco Truck & Trailer Refinishing, Tire Trax, and Wright Choice Auto Sales #40 of Maffett Jr. would lead all the way for his 1st win at Hilltop but Hornikel, last weeks winner, kept the pressure on by staying within two car lengths all through the race. The fans kept their eyes on the race for third as George Lee, Rick Conley Jr. and first heat winner, Ty Myers were changing positions on almost every lap and in the end, Myers grabbed third, with Lee and Conley Jr. following. Tyler Carpenter topped the other heat race
Almost following in Maffett Jr.'s tire tracks, Norm Aronhalt powered past Josh Morrow with two laps to go in the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modified dash and be the pole sitter for their feature. With the help of four caution flags in first 11 laps, Morrow hung with Aronhalt but as the last nine laps went non stop, the Wyler Enterprises and Crazy Acres #309 of Aronhalt sped away and the Warsaw driver scored his second win of the year. Robin Dustin outdueled Mark Gardiner for third as Ryan West captured fifth. Hometown driver Josh Pyers won the last chance race as heat wins went to Gardiner, Matt Samples and West.
Wooster's Donna Canode held off the guys to post her first win in the Street Stock main as the Tom's Salvage, Santmyer Oil, and Howard Hanna- Smyth Cramer #D7 held off John Wilson early in the race, then points leader Todd Swim tried his luck with no success and then following a lap 11 caution, Justin Patterson gave it his best shot in the last four circuits but Canode held him off. Swim and Wilson finished third and fourth Kevin Sharier taking fifth. Canode and Swim collected the heat wins.
Heat winners Blain Markey and Mitch Ling started on the front row of the Holmes Tire Mini Stock main with Markey setting the pace for the opening two laps but then it was Loudonville's Jordan James taking over and then put the Winkler Ag Service, Thompson Memorials and 1st Choice Stump Grinding #83 into victory circle for the third time this season. Ling held off Mike Rose for second as Brett Adkins and Chris Priebe filled out the top five.

HILLTOP'S MID-SEASON CROWNS GO TO HORNIKEL, MOREHOUSE, GARDNER, STAMPER, CLINE & WYER
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, June 12, 2010

All six class' went for the Mid-Season awards Saturday night on Kid's Night at Hilltop Speedway on a great racing surface that saw three wide racing on night long. Mansfield's Dave Hornikel had the stars lined-up in his favor for the Super Late Model action as he started the night off by setting fast time then began the dash in sixth place and used the high groove to charge into the lead on the second lap of the dash to win. The Imperial Truck Refinishing, Deschner's Pizza & Drive Thru, Fultz Fabrication #71 of Hornikel started on the pole of the feature and withstood charges from points leader Charlie Duncan after three caution flag restarts as Duncan tried using the low groove to get past the leader but Hornikel would pull away on the ensuing laps to claim his first win of the year and become the eighth different winner in eight weeks of racing for the Super Late Models. Keith Tish ran a strong third with last year's track champ, George Lee taking fourth in his first race with his new car as Larry Holbrook held off heat winner Ty Myers for fifth.
Gary Clark would be the quick timer for the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modifieds but halfway through the dash, Kevin Morehouse would power past Robin Duston for the lead and win of the dash to place him on the pole of the feature. The Morehouse Logging, Rice Excavating & Sam's Used Cars #28 would have Duston and Clark in tow as George Lee was getting the high groove to his liking and moved past Clark on lap eight and take second from Duston on the next circuit and close in on Morehouse. On lap 12, Lee went low in turn one and did a slide job on Morehouse to grab the lead for an instant as Morehouse dropped to the inside of Lee to reclaim the point going down the backstretch. Two laps later, the caution flag flew for David Pryor's car and Lee went to the pits with a mechanical problem. Hanover's Morehouse then cruised to his sixth win of the season and his 20th all time win at Hilltop Speedway. Duston and Clark would finish second and third with heat winner Josh Morrow grabbing fourth and Rick Mardis getting his first top five of the year. Jimmy Smith collected a heat win as Beau Bradley outdueled Ryan West for the last chance win.
Making only his second appearance of the year at Hilltop, Brandon Gardner was in Mid-Season form as last years track champ went flag to flag for his first win in the Street Stock main and collect his 24th all time win on the 'Hill. Although the Maibach Ford, Perrysville based #27g of Gardner led all the way in the non stop feature, tight racing was going on for top five action as Donna Canode and John Wilson dueled for second as points leader Todd Swim was in the mix of the things also as he slipped past Canode with two to go to take second as she held off Wilson for third at the checkered flag. Darrell Mayer filled out the top five. Gardner and Canode topped the heat races.
Another feature that was caution free was the Holmes Tire Mini Stocks as Mansfield's Bobby Stamper led all the way, for his first win, with points leader Jordan James literally on the rear bumper of the Wright Choice Auto Sales #1 the last ten laps of the race, which is how they ran their heat race. Heat winner Brett Adkins held off a late race charge by Chris Priebe to capture third as Brad Hensel rounded out the top five. Jerry Adkins was also a heat winner.
The Circle Track Mini Truck feature started with a mishap going into turn one that knocked co-points leader Jerry Gardner out of action for the night and on the ensuing restart, Jack Large would set the pace for the first four laps before Ashland's Kyle Cline would take over the lead. The Hilltop Taxidermy, D & D Archery, and B & B Salvage #33 would increase his lead every lap for his first win. Jack Large kept the other co-points leader, Rolly Heyder at bay for second as Kevin Potts moved past Tom Garlick with three laps to go for fourth. Jack and John Large both picked off heat wins as did Potts.
Levi Bowen led the first two laps of the Mini Wedge feature and then made a last lap run at Dakota Wyer but came up short as Wyer won for the first time. Tanner Johnson was third as Triston Lillibridge and Lane Bryan followed.
A BIG THANKS goes out to all that donated prizes for Kid's night as every youngster got a gift and also thanks to JR Dowling for bringing in 'CRUSHER', the Oakland Raiders mascot who will be going into the NFL Hall of Fame this August as a Mascot. He signed autographs and took pictures with the kids and adults and even flagged a race.
A busy week of racing coming up this week for Hilltop Speedway as regular action minus the Circle Track Trucks is set for Saturday, June 19th and then Tuesday, June 22nd will be the Ohio Sprint Speedweek show with the O'Reilly All Star Sprints with $5,000 to the winner along with the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modifieds on the racing card.

PARKER & MAYER PARK IN HILLTOP'S VICTORY LANE FOR 1st TIME; MOREHOUSE, JAMES,& LARGE ADD TO WIN TOTALS
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, May 29, 2010
By Mike Swanger

A jammed packed pit area and another big crowd saw some close racing on Atom's Pest Control and the Bargain Shed night at Hilltop Speedway Saturday night. Wayne Maffett Jr. led the field of Super Late Models with Steve Prince, Zanesville's Cody Parker and Lance Elson in tow. Parker would move into second on lap four with Prince and Elson dueling for third. Those two would make rub together on the front stretch on lap five with Elson cutting a tire and as he slowed down on the back stretch, Charlie Duncan and David Liles made contact with Elson. Liles and Elson had to be towed off while Duncan would continue with a badly damaged car. Dash winner Maffett Jr. used the low groove to keep the lead with quick timer Parker right on his rear bumper as Anthony Kincaid, Shane McLoughlin, the Dash for Cash winner, and Justin Chance ran top five. Moving up the track, Parker and his Weekly Electric, North Pointe Dental and BH Racing #63 was able to power past Maffett Jr. for the lead at the halfway mark. With nine circuits to go, Dave Hornikel took fifth away from Chance. A caution on lap 19 for Ty Myers and on the ensuing restart, Kincaids car lost power and rolled into the infield as he was running fourth. With two to go, McLoughlin moved past Maffett Jr. for second but ran out of laps before he could catch Parker. Maffett Jr. held on to third as 15th starting Hornikel used the high groove to grab fourth in front of Prince. Jeremy Canada, Elson, and McLoughlin won the heats as Chester Elliott topped the last chance race.
For the Snyder Brothers Tri State Modifieds, it was Hanover's Kevin Morehouse dominating the evening as he set fast time, won the Dash for Cash and the Morehouse Logging, Rice Excavating, and NAPA Auto Parts #28 led flag to flag for his fifth feature win of the season at Hilltop Speedway. The only race the 'Logger' didn't win was the dash as George Lee won that to start on the pole of the feature but Morehouse used the outside front row to grab the lead at the drop of the green. Lapped traffic was the only thing that slowed Morehouse while second running Lee had trouble with the slower cars as he got tangled up with Korey Kimble with three laps to go to bring out the caution. That would put 8th starting Gary Clark in second on the restart but he had no answer for Morehouse either. Matt Samples and Aaron Phillis ran third and fourth as Lee came back to finish fifth. Randy Gray and Clark notched the heat wins with Ryan West capturing the last chance event.
It was deja vu for Darrell Mayer of Frazeyburg as he got back in his old car that Jimmy Smith had drove to victory on opening night and Mayer led all the way for the Street Stock feature win. The Hammon Masonary and Fat Boys Racing #280 was hounded all race long by John Wilson, who could never find the combination to get by Mayer. Kenny Daugherty Jr., Denny Shear, Justin Patterson, Todd Swim, Kevin Sharier and Joe Spearman spent time in the top five but Swim had to change a tire on a lap nine caution and Patterson, who won the Dash for Cash, went sliding into the infield on the white flag lap after some contact ended their runs for top five finishes. Daugherty Jr., Shear, and Sharier, who started 11th, filled out the top five. Mayer and Patterson won the heats.
A big night for Loudonville graduating senior Jordan James as he won the Dash for Cash, with the hood up in front of the windshield the last four laps, a heat race and then took the lead from Ernest Fortune on the second lap of the Holmes Tire Mini Stock feature and put the Thompson Memorials, 1st Choice Stump Grinding, and Winkler Ag Service #83 into victory circle for the second time this year. It was a highly competitive race for second as Fortune and Jerry Adkins went back and forth for second with Fortune edging by at the line for second with Adkins just in front of Mitck Ling for third. Brad Lawhorn rounded out the top five. Fortune and Josh Gentry also picked up heat wins.
Millersburg's John Large was also a three time winner in the Circle Track Mini Trucks as he scored wins in the Dash for Cash, a heat win and the cruised to his second feature win of the year aboard the L & L Motors and Advance Auto Parts #17. Kevin Potts and Scott Gray, a heat winner, wheeled and dealed all race for second with Potts winning that battle and right behind them going back and forth were Jerry Gardner and Rolly Heyder as they settled for fourth and fifth.
Phil Bubeck led the opening lap of the Mini Wedge main but after that it was all Blake Morris for his first win of the year at Hilltop Speedway with Triston Lillibridge following Bubeck across the line.
Two nights of racing at Hilltop Speedway this week end as the Ohio Outlaw Motorsports quads take over on Friday night with the Mini Wedges joining that eight o'clock show. Saturday night will be Season Championships for all the regular class' along with Kid's Night at 7:30 pm.

Hess Jr. Hold Off Carrier for First Career O’Reilly All Star Late Model Win!

Millersburg, OH – May 15, 2010 – Jason Shank – All Star Championship Racing Inc.

Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, PA has been some kind of hot to begin the 2010 season and that success has stuck with the young pilot as the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series gets into full swing. Hess held off the hard charging Eddie Carrier Jr. and the 2009 ASLMS Champion Rob Blair to pick up his first career ASLMS win at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH.

A packed house watched Lance Elson and Carrier Jr. led the talented 24-car field to the green flag with Carrier jumping out to the early lead from his outside starting position. Hess made his presence known early as he slide under Elson to capture the second place position before the first lap was complete. The race slowed on lap 5 as Waterville, OH’s Matt Miller slowed coming down the front straightaway bringing out the first of two cautions. Carrier Jr. led the Delaware Style restart with Hess Jr. and Blair in tow. Hess worked the bottom side to perfection as he made his way around the ‘Salt Rock Express’ for the lead on lap 8. Meanwhile, the racing was as action packed throughout the field as it was at the front. Gregg Satterlee, Jared Miley, and Boom Briggs were battling three-wide for the seventh position as Hess Jr. held off Carrier Jr. for the lead. Hess and Carrier put on a show up front as Carrier stayed on Hess’s rear deck-lid throughout the event while Blair stayed right with the front two. The action was plentiful before the second caution on lap 25 for Darren Peters slowed the pace. The race went caution-free for the last 15 laps as Carrier was unable to get around Hess as he held on for his first career ASLMS win followed by Carrier in second, Blair in third, Tim Dohm came home fourth in his first event since eye surgery, and Mike Knight was fifth. Jared Miley finished sixth with Zack Dohm in seventh, Gregg Satterlee in eighth, Boom Briggs was ninth, and Jared Hawkins rounded out the top ten.

Starting on the pole, Warsaw's Norm Aronhalt used the very high line to go flag to flag for his first win of the year in the Snyder Brothers Tri State Modified feature. The Wyler Enterprises and Crazy Acres Trophies #309 had to wait through some cautions and on the restarts, fend off charges by third starting George Lee, who could never grab the lead away from Aronhalt. Gary Clark and Sam Lovejoy ran third and fourth as 16th starting Aaron Phillis worked through the field to finish fifth. Aronhalt, Lee, and Clark won the heats.

Wilson kept the pressure on Swim until mechanical woes forced him to the pits on lap nine. Tony Cline inheireted second place at that point to finish there with Donna Canode in third with Kevin Sharier, who started tenth, claiming fourth with John Miller rounding out the top five. Wilson and Denny Shear topped the heats.
Not racing for a couple of years had no ill effects on Jerry Adkins as he parked the Millersburg based #101 in the Holmes Tire Mini Stock victory lane. Jordan James edged out Brad Hensel on the last lap for second with Jeremy Lucas getting fourth on the last circuit from Kevin Markey as those four battled for each position. Mitch Ling, Adkins, and James collected the heat wins.

MUMAW & McLOUGHLIN WIN HILLTOP THRILLERS
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, April 17, 2010
By Mike Swanger

It was a chilly night for racing but another great crowd saw 100 racers put on the closest racing of the season at Hilltop Speedway. The Sprints made their first visit of the season with heat winners Danny Mumaw of Wooster on the pole with Shawn Valenti alongside. Valenti would spin on the second lap to go to the tail and put Jason Dolick into second. Mumaw would build a lead until a caution for Brent Coffman on lap nine. On this restart, Mumaw would set a slow pace and when the green flew, Dolick was on the gas and the two leaders bumped but held on to their positions with Aaron Middaugh and Mitch Harble right behind. The final caution of the race came three laps later for Coffman again and on this restart, Dolick powered past Mumaw for the lead. With five laps to go, Mumaw put a slide job on Dolick going into turn one but Dolick returned the favor in turn two but on the next lap in turn one, the Hitchcock Excavating, Mumaw Tree & Stump Service, and DJ's Directional Services #16 slid up in front of Dolick in turn one and made it stick to grab the checkered flag. Harble finished third with Middaugh fourth and Valenti coming back to take fifth.
The Super Late Model feature warmed things up early as Lance Elson, dash winner Shane McLoughlin and Charlie Duncan were three wide at times for the top spot. Elson and Zanesville's McLoughlin would continue with side by side action as Duncan settled into third but with Dave Hornikel putting the pressure on him for third. With ten circuits to go, the Lias Tire, Riesbeck's Food Market, Tye Twarog Racing #9 of McLoughlin pulled into the lead and collect his first win of the season. Elson and Duncan held on to second and third with Cody Parker coming from his ninth starting place to beat out Hornikel for fourth. Wayne Maffett Jr. and Mike Bores topped the heats with Justin Chance setting fast time.
Dash winner Jesse Wisecarver led the opening lap of the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modified main as Larry Kugel took the lead for the next two laps but after that it was quick timer Kevin Morehouse of Hanover taking over and putting the Morehouse Logging, Sam's Used Cars, and Steve Roberts Excavating #28 into victory lane for the fourth time this season. The race for second was wild as George Lee used the extreme high side to pressure Kugel for second as those two would go back and forth until lap 15 when Lee got a little out of shape that allowed Jess Hartman by for third but with two to go, Lee slipped back past Hartman for third. Hilton Eppley ran race long in fifth. Norm Aronhalt and Matt Samples posted the heat wins.
The Street Stock feature was a hotly contested race with Galion's Todd Swim being hounded by Donna Canode for the first few circuits as John Wilson would join in. As Canode and Wilson wheeled and dealed for second, Swim and his Mr. Trailer Sales, Fultz Fabrication, and White Racing Engines #44 pulled out to a 12 car length lead. All this time, two time winner Justin Patterson and last years track champ, Brandon Gardner were working their way through the field. With two laps to go Patterson caught Swim and when they hit in turn one on the white flag lap, Swim spun and Patterson was charged with the caution, giving Swim the lead back. On the last lap dash to the checker flag, Swim held of Gardner for his first win as Canode won the race for third over Wilson with Denny Shear filling out the top five.
Wooster's Brad Hensel went flag to flag for his first win of the year in the Holmes Tire Mini Stock main. It was back and forth action for the next three positions though and when the dust settled, Jordan James had second with Ernest Fortune third and Jeremy Lucas fourth. Rounding out the to five was Kevin Stamper. Hensel, Lucas and Blain Markey collected the heat wins with Jeremy Hudson grabbing the last chance victory.
Dillyn Wyer and Levi Bowen won the heat races of the Mini Wedges but it was Shelby Watson taking the feature for the second week in a row. Bowen and Wyer finished second and third with Chase Frohnodel and Tanner Johnson rounding out the top five.
Hilltop Speedway will close out the month of April on the 24th with the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Trucks, and Mini Wedges and then get ready for a busy month of May. Gates open at 4 pm and racing starts at 7:30 pm every Saturday night.

ELSON CRUISES TO FIRST HILLTOP LATE MODEL WIN
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, April 10, 2010
By Mike Swanger

Another big crowd saw 105 race cars in the pits at Hilltop Speedway on a beautiful but cool night that was full of close racing. Bryan Casey led the pack of Super Late Models to the green flag and set the pace for the opening three circuits as fourth starting Lance Elson used the extreme high groove to move into second on lap three then blew by Casey on the next lap for the lead. From then on, only caution flags would slow down the Wellsburg, WV driver and his Unique Walls & Ceiling, Competition Sportswear, and Mack's Inc. #17e. Behind him was a real battle for second as Casey, Dave Hornikel, fast qualifier Charlie Duncan and second heat winner,Shane McLoughlin went bumper to bumper for second place. Following a caution for Cody Smith on lap 12, Casey and Hornikel tapped together in turn two that allowed both McLoughlin and Duncan to take second and third. As Hornikel used the high side to get by Casey on the next lap, he closed in on Duncan and pulled alongside and at the flagstand they squeezed together and sent Hornikel into the turn one guardrail ending his night on the very next lap. On the restart, McLoughlin tried the low groove to challenge Elson for the top spot but Elson was dialed in with high groove and won by a straightaway. Tenth starting Cody Parker came on strong late in the race to take third from Duncan with two laps to go as Casey hung on to fifth. JR Gentry won the first heat.
Jesse Wisecarver topped the score sheets for the first 17 laps of the Snyder Brothers Tri State Modified main and as like the Late Models, action was fast and furious behind him. Dash winner,Gary Clark, Larry Kugel, George Lee and quick timer, Kevin Morehouse were slicing and dicing for the top five. Morehouse would pass Lee on lap 12 for third and then take second from Kugel two circuits later. A caution flag for debris with four laps to go bunched the pack together. On the drop of the green, Hanover's Morehouse eased by Wisecarver to take the lead and then sprint away with his Rice Excavating, Big 'O' Refuse, and Sam's Used Cars #28 for his third win of the year. Wisecarver held off Kugel for second with Clark and Lee rounding out the top five. Aaron Phillis and Larry Holbrook topped the heat races.
Shreve's Justin Patterson won the first heat to set on the pole of the Street Stock feature and the Holmes Tire, Tom's Salvage, and Bob Eicholtz Engines # 83 would go flag to flag to notch his second win of 2010. John Wilson kept the pressure on Patterson all race long but the second heat winner could never make a strong run for the lead. A three car battle for third between Jason Hinton, Kenny Daugherty Jr. and Jimmy Smith in the last half of the race ended with them finishing in that order.
Two time winner Rolly Heyder was the leader for the first two laps of the Circle Track Mini Trucks but after that it was all Jerry Gardner up front. The Sunbury driver and his Your Friendly Neighborhood Mechanic #58 would hold off Kyle Cline for his first win this year as Kevin Potts slipped past Heyder with two laps to go for third and Kenny Duncan collected fifth. John Large and Gardner won the heats.
Millersburg's Dale Beckett looks unbeatable in the Holmes Tire Mini Stocks as the Fortune Signs, Beckett Auto Sales and Holmes Tire #4 went flag to flag for his third win of the season. Ernest Fortune passed Kyle Moore for second at the halfway mark. Kevin Markey took fourth as Brad Lawhorn moved from starting tenth to finish fifth. Moore, Beckett, and Robert Smith captured the heat wins with Brad Hensel claiming the last chance victory.
Levi Bowen and Dillyn Wyer led at times in the Mini Wedge feature but it was Shelby Watson holding the checkered flag at the end. Wyer finished second with Cole Lillibridge, Bowen and Tanner Johnson filling out the top five. Watson and Tanner Johnson were the heat winners.
Saturday, April 17th will have the Sprint Cars in for the first time this year as the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and the Mini Wedges will also be on the racing card as the Mini Trucks take the night off at Hilltop Speedway. Gates open at 4 p.m, Hot Laps at 6 p.m and the green flag dropps at 7: 30 p.m.

MOREHOUSE, BECKETT, & HEYDER 2 FOR 2 AT HILLTOP; DROWN & PATTERSON MOTOR TO FIRST WINS
Millersburg, Ohio Saturday, April 3, 2010 By Mike Swanger
Warmer but windy conditions brought out another huge crowd and a big field of cars for the second night of racing at Wardell's Hilltop Speedway on Easter Egg Hunt night for the kids. Wooster's Doug Drown started on the pole with Jeremy Canada along side and for the first six laps they would lead the way for the Super Late Model feature. Some aggressive driving would bring out the caution on four of the next five laps as Charlie Duncan and Chester Elliott on laps seven and eight with Ty Myers and Doug Dodd mixing it up on lap nine to knock both of them to the pits. J.R. Gentry was battling for fourth place with D.J. Cline and last weeks winner, Ryan Markham with Gentry causing the caution on lap ten. Things settled down at that point with the Wooster Glass, DJ Miller Directional Services, Malcuit Engines no.12 starting to pull away with Canada still in pursuit. A hot race for third was going on with Cline, Markham and Bryan Casey running fender to fender. Markham takes third from Cline with ten laps to go. The final caution with four circuits to go came out for a stopped Dave Hornikel, bunching the field back together. Drown would sprint out on the restart to secure his first win of the year as Canada held off Markham for second as Casey slipped by Cline on the restart to claim fourth. Drown, Canada and Gentry paced the heat races with Casey claiming the dash and Kristin Flory grabbing the last chance win. Cline was the fast qualifier.

Jess Hartman set the pace for the opening five laps of the Snyder Brothers Tri-State Modified main with opening night winner Kevin Morehouse, DJ Cline and George Lee bunched together for second. The Hanover driver and his Steve Roberts Excavating, Morehouse Logging and NAPA Auto Parts no.28 would stretch his lead out as Cline was busy holding off Lee, Hartman and Gary Clark for second. A lap eighteen yellow for Aaron Phillis packed the field together for the last two laps with Cline not able to make a pass to stop Morehouse from his second win of the year. Clark slipped past Lee for third with Hartman filling out the top five. Hartman ans Lee topped the heats with quick timer Morehouse posting the dash win. The Street Stock feature had pole sitter John Wilson in front of the field for the first eight laps that was interrupted on a lap five caution by last weeks winner, Jimmy Smith, who was third at the time. On the redrop of the green, Shreve's Justin Patterson squeezes by Todd Swim for second and set sail for Wilson. Patterson passes by Wilson on lap nine and on the next trip around, Wilson would spin trying to reclaim the top spot but brought out the caution flag instead. From then on, the Holmes Tire and Tom's Salvage no.83 kept of Patterson kept Swim at bay for his win. Smith caught Jason Hinton on the last lap for third with Denny Shear rounding out the top five. Wilson and Smith notched the heat wins.

A wild start to the Holmes Tire Mini Stock feature when outside front row starter Dustin Cyrus hiccuped on the start sending the field scattering that allowed sixth starting Dale Beckett of Millersburg to bolt into the lead. Kevin Markey was able to pop into second with Jordan James in third. Markey tried every way he could but could never get around the Holmes Tire, Fortune Signs, and Beckett Auto Sales no.4 of Beckett. James ran third with Jeremy Lucas and John Sinnett taking fourth and fifth. James and Cyrus won the heats. Winning the first heat race put Rolly Heyder on the pole of the Circle Track Mini Truck main and the Galena driver would put the Rader Collision, Jack Maxton Parts, All City Auto Wrecking no.10 into victory lane for the second week in a row. Second heat winner Kevin Potts didn't make it easy for Heyder as Potts was able to pull alongside late in the race but could never take the lead. John Large, Jerry Gardner and Scott Gray wheeled and dealed to finish third through fifth. Jesse Johnson dominated the Mini Wedge feature for his second win of the season over Cole Lillibridge.

The same six divisions will put on more racing excitement next Saturday, April 10th at Hilltop Speedway and the Sprint Cars will make their debut in 2010 on April 17th. Gates open at 4 pm with racing at 7:30 pm.

MARKHAM & MOREHOUSE WIN 15th CAREER HILLTOP FEATURES
Millersburg, Ohio
Saturday, March 27, 2010
By Mike Swanger

A big crowd didn't let the chilly conditions bother them as Hilltop Speedway opened up the 2010 racing season as five drivers remembered how to get back to victory lane from last season. Bryan Casey led the first lap of the Super Late Model feature but third starting Ryan Markham of Ashland motored by on lap two for the lead with Justin Chance taking second from first heat winner Casey on the next lap and then pestered Markham for the lead until the halfway point of the race. That's when Markham's #5m began to pull away and win his 15th career feature win at Hilltop by a straightaway as second heat winner Chance held on to second. Casey had his hands full holding off Ty Myers and Charlie Duncan for third as they filled out the top five.

After posting 8 wins last season, Hanover's Kevin Morehouse started on the outside front row of the Snyder Brothers Modified feature and beat last season's track champion, Larry Kugel into turn one for the lead that he would not give up. The Big 'O' Refuse, Rice Excavating, and Sam's Used Cars # 28 of Morehouse was hounded by Kugel all race long but pulled into victory lane for his 15th career win. Hilton Eppley controlled third until five laps to go when 2008 track champion Jess Hartman caught him for that position but Eppley held off George Lee for fourth. Kugel and Morehouse won the heats.

Heat winners Tyler Bryan and John Wilson started on the front row of the Street Stock main but before the first lap was complete, Wilson got sideways and collected Donna Canode and Todd Swim resulting in flat tires for both of them and all three going to the back of the field. Bryan would set the pace for the opening seven circuits with Newark's Jimmy Smith trying to find an opening to get by. Using the highside, the Hammon's  Masonary #280 of Smith would take over on lap eight and then hold off a fast closing Wilson to score his second career win at Hilltop. Swim recovered to take third followed by Denny Shear and Kenny Daugherty Jr. Dale Beckett of Millersburg went flag to flag in the Holmes Tire Mini Stock main for his fifth career win. The Beckett Auto Sales, Fortune Signs, Holmes Tire #4 was harassed all race long by last years track champ, Ernest Fortune as Beckett crossed the finish line by just a half car length ahead. Kevin Markey edged out Brad Lawhorn on the last lap for third with Casey Butler taking fifth. Jordan James and Butler topped the heats. Blain Markey brought out the red flag in the second heat race when he barrelrolled after hitting the retaining tire in turn four. The Circle Track Mini Trucks added a new name to their winners list as Galena's Rolly Heyder led all the way to put the Jack Maxton Parts, All City Auto Wrecking and Rader Collision #10 into victory lane. For the first nine laps, John Large put the heat on Heyder before the right rear tire wore out on Large's #17. As that was happening, Scott Gray moved past last years champion, Jerry Gardner for second. Dustin Miller took fourth as Kevin Potts rebounded for fifth. Potts went rolling over four times in his heat race after hitting a tire. Jesse Johnson beat Tanner Johnson for the Mini Wedge feature.

Action continues next Saturday, April 3 with the same six class' in action with an Easter Egg hunt for the kids before the races. Gates open at 4 pm. and first race at 7:30 pm.
