Rod George captures $2,000 DIRTcar CSS Feature #1
Ellenberger and Blaney fly the Ti22 colors to top five finishes
DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series Race Report 4.23

Sarver, PA (April 24, 2010) The debut of the DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series brought in two of the area’s finest traveling locals to support their sponsor, which also sponsors the DIRTcar Sprint division at Lernerville Speedway. Ti22 Performance burst onto the national sprint scene last year with a complete line of titanium racing components for sprint cars. In 2010, they became the title sponsor of the DIRTcar Sprint division at Lernerville Speedway and a the primary sponsor of former Lernerville Track Champion Dale Blaney who predominantly runs the All Stars Sprint Circuit, and they still sponsor Brian Ellenberger on the World of Outlaws Series and Jack Sodeman Jr. at Lernerville Speedway.
Last night, all the Ti22 stars aligned to make for a thrilling 25-lap feature in the first of ten races in the newly created DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series. But when the checkered flag waved, it was Defending Track Champion Rod George celebrating the $2,000 conquest in Sheetz Victory Lane.
Sodeman started on the front row alongside Gary Rankin and took the lead at the drop of the green flag. In his wake was a bevy of open wheeled fury as George, Ed Lynch Jr., Ellenberger and Blaney battled for position as they made their way to the front. Despite the talent behind him, Sodeman appeared to be solidly in command of the race for the first 15 circuits. But on the lap 16 restart, he slowed exiting turn two instead of blasting down the back straightaway and rolled to a stop just short of pit road. He rolled pitside during the caution and did not return.
George inherited the lead but had the Ti22 Crew breathing down his neck as the green flag dropped. But as George tore into an open race track, Ellenberger and Blaney battled each other, allowing George to motor away with the 41st feature win of his career at Lernerville Speedway and the first ever DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series feature.
George sits atop the DIRTcar CSS Point Standings with 40 points and essentially takes over the Bud Points lead, as when the Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprints next take to the Action Track on Friday May 7, Brian Ellenberger will be in competition under the Outlaws banner at Eldora Speedway.
In addition to the $2,000 DIRTcar CSS payday, George also picked up $40 from the National Guard Heat Race Challenge, while the fan that pulled his pill walked away from Sheetz Victory Lane with a new pair of National Guard issue work boots!
Ellenberger and Blaney battled each other for most of the race. During the early and middle stages of the race, they battled for third as George tried to track down Sodeman and then when George inherited the lead, they battled for second. As they crossed the finish line, it was Outlaws regular Ellenberger taking second, while All Star Blaney captured third.
Carl Bowser had a strong run coming from eighth on the starting grid to finish fourth ahead of Charlie Holben. Holben’s top five finish is made all the more impressive by the fact that an early race mishap sent him to the tail of the field! Bob Felmlee was the collateral damage in Holben’s early spin, but he too came the whole way through the field to finish sixth. All Time wins leader Ed Lynch Jr. can certainly empathize with Felmlee as he was collected by a spinning Sheila Rankin in turns three & four on lap 12. Lynch fought back through the field to finish seventh.
Rising star Danny Holtgraver started third and ran a handful of laps right behind the big guys in the top five before settling in behind Felmlee and Lynch to score a solid eighth place finish. Mercer Raceway Park regular Eric “Turkey” Williams scored an impressive ninth place finish in a rare Lernerville appearance, while Lernerville veteran Brent Matus rounded out the Ti22 Top Ten. Heat races were checkered by George, Lynch and Blaney.
The DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series will be back in action next Sunday May 2 at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, PA with another $2,000-to-win show. As mentioned above, Rod George heads to the track where he has claimed four Track Championships and is the All Time Wins leader (in the Sprint division) with 48 wins as the DIRTcar CSS points leader.

DIRTcar Racing UMP Weekly Points Update: Schlenk Takes Late Model Lead, Sweeney Remains Atop Modified National Standings

MARYVILLE, IL – April 23, 2010 – Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., is eyeing DIRTcar Racing's UMP Late Model national championship is 2010 – and so far, he's proving that he's a serious contender for the crown.

The campaign has only just begun, but Schlenk, 23, took over the circuit's national points lead following last weekend's action. He overtook fellow young lion Jason McBride of Carbondale, Ill., after scoring a top-three finish in all three of his starts.

Schlenk registered a second-place finish in the season-opening Sunoco American Late Model Series event on April 16 at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park. He then finished third in another ALMS show on April 17 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and third in a weekend-ending program on April 18 at Waynesfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park.

The solid weekend pushed Schlenk to a 96-point (728-632) lead over McBride in the national standings. Schlenk has made 10 starts and McBride 11 so far in 2010.

Veteran Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky., meanwhile, remained atop the UMP Modified national points standings. He enters this weekend's action holding a 21-point lead (786-765) over young Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M.

There was no change at the top of the national standings in UMP's six other divisions. Points leaders remain Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo, Ill. (Sportsman), Shane Hebert of Lafayette, La. (Limited Modifieds), Trevor Gamble of DeLeon Springs, Fla. (Stock Cars), Scott Mooers of Osteen, Fla. Conley takes AMRA Late Model bout, Smith Smokes Goodyear 410's
Adams Absolute best in Hobbys, Adkins Anchors Modifieds

K-C Raceway Results April 16, 2010 By Scott Wolfe

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Wheelersburg, Ohio driver R.J. Conley made it two-for-two in the exciting 25-lap AMRA Late Model feature at Jeff and Vickie Schrader's K-C Raceway. In the Goodyear 410 sprint main, former champ Danny Smith, Chillicothe, Ohio scored the first 410 win of the year, while Jamie Adams took the Dan Reno Hobby Stocks, and Doug Adkins claimed the AMRA Advanced Services Modifieds.

Conley, last week's winner, picked up where he left off, but his job was a little tougher this time around. Dresden, Ohio's Donnie Moran jumped out to the lead on lap one of the late model feature. R.J. Conley and Greggie Oliver were neck-in-neck battling for the second position. Kenny Christy, Audie Swartz, and Jason Montgomery followed within close striking distance, as the entire field flat-footed the K-C highbanks. Donnie Moran got in a skirmish on the front stretch and was the first to go pitside, while four laps later B-main winner and racing journalist Scott Wolfe dropped out on lap 14. Following Moran's caution, R.J. Conley took over the lead. Conley ran away from the pack at the drop of the green. Oliver clung to the runner-up, but continued with heavy heat from Swartz and Montgomery who were breathing down his neck. Swartz worked Oliver in the corners, but the straights were where Oliver was able to hold on. As the track locked down drivers challenged for every position, but Conley led the freight train to his second win. Behind R.J. Conley, were Kenny Christy, Audie Swartz, Jason Montgomery, Greggie Oliver, Rod Conley, Devin Moran, Mark Frazier, Josh Tidwell, and Dylan Huron, who was the hard charger.

In the 410 main, Jimmy Nier and Smith brought the field to the line; as Sam Ashworth looped it in turn two for a complete restart. Nier reclaimed a big lead on the high side as Cole Duncan brought out a second caution after his machine stalled on the back stretch. Nier took over yet again with Todd Kane and Jimmy Stinson settling into second and third. In turn two, Bryce Dickson and Ryan Myers got together for another caution. Smith, Kory Crabtree and Nick Naber followed the top three on the single file restart. Danny Smith overtook third from Jimmy Stinson on the low side and quickly reeled in Todd Kane on the outside. Crabtree pressured Stinson for fourth, while hard-charging Keith Baxter moved into tenth position from the tail by lap five. Nier clipped the turn one wall and took a hard flip after going airborne several times. He escaped the tumble uninjured. Smith moved into the front position with Kane, Stinson, Crabtree, and Corey Conley following. Kane tried Smith on the low side and continued to press for several laps. Crabtree worked hard on the low side to peek at the third position over Stinson. Crabtree was all over Jim Stinson for third working high and low, but unable to take control. Conley moved in and Crabtree focused on his hold on fourth. Smith approached lap traffic again with nineteen laps down. Stinson slipped into the second position around Todd Kane. Smith's lead was nearly an entire track's length as the white flag dropped and claimed the first win of the 2010 Goodyear Sprint Series.  Kane, Stinson, Crabtree followed in a close battle for second and third with Conley, Naber, Neumeister, Adam Strausser, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Baxter rounding out the top ten. Baxter was the hard charger from the tail to tenth.

Last week in the AMRA Mods, Doug Adkins, West Portsmouth, Ohio, was the bridesmaid. This week he walked the aisle to a flag-to-flag win over the ever-persistent Brian Whiteman who was glued to Adkins bumper for the duration. Whiteman tried all the tricks to overcome the flying leader, but the "Buzzard" Adkins 'flew' on to the win. Clint Keenan leap-frogged from 10th to fourth in torrid battles with Rob Stambaugh, Jeremy Rayburn, Bud Frazier, and Robin Duston, while Adam Colley was charging from the tail towards the top ten. Both Keenan and Colley earned hard charging honors. Stambaugh, Rayburn and one of K-C's greatest pioneers battled wildly for position as Whiteman was relentless in his efforts to over come Adkins. Pinkerton had a mid-race charge, but stalled with a credible 8th after starting 11th. When it all shook down Adkins posted the Advanced Services win ahead of Whiteman, Rob Stambaugh, Clint Keenan, Jeremy Rayburn, Bud Frazier, Robin Duston, Fireball Pinkerton, Jason Montgomery, and Adam Jordan.
In the Hobby Stock division Laurelville's Jamie Adams is the King of the Hill and sole proprietor of victory lane so far in 2010. The chassis builder extraordinaire wheeled to another win over former champ Tommy Mossbarger, who desperately tried to lasso the hard-charging Adams. Meanwhile, although numerous battles were taking place in the pack, Tracey Ross was flat-footing it from 21st position all the way to a top ten (tenth). Joe Williams, Mark Kaetzel , Bruce Gray, Jr., Joe Buskirk, Brandon Thompson, Mike Brust, and Jayme Dailey all swapped positions, but when the checkered fell they trickled down in that running order with Ross the top ten.

Next week April 24, K-C will again have a regular show of four classes-410 sprints, AMRA Late Models, AMRA Advanced Modifieds, and Dan Reno Hobby Stocks. April 30 and May 1 is the Dirt Cup Classic Weekend featuring one of the top purses of the 2010 racing season. Cars and drivers from all over the nation are expected! VANWORMER, BABCOCK & TRENT TAKE ELDORA OPENERS

ROSSBURG, OH (April 17) – Amid bone-chilling temperatures, Jeep VanWormer (Sunoco American Late Model Series), Jeff Babcock (Modified) and Rob Trent (Stock Car) captured Saturday’s main events to kick off the 2010 racing season at Eldora Speedway.

For VanWormer, the 25 lap distance was more than enough.
Only one lap slowed the pace, with that falling on lap two in a multi-car collision involving Tim Sabo, Scott Orr and Phil Ausra. On the ensuing restart, leader VanWormer had something poke a hole in his radiator and for the next 23 laps, he kept one eye on the gauges and one eye on the track.

With the temperatures rising, he decided to ride it out and go for broke.

The Pinconning, MI native had developed a nice lead over the remainder of the pack, as Wayne Chinn, Matt Miller and Steve Casebolt fought it out for runner-up honors. Chinn held Miller at bay through lap 12, but with the race going non-stop, simply ran out of time to catch the high-flying VanWormer.

VanWormer admitted to slowing down in the latter stages of the event in an effort to preserve the power plant; unaware that Miller was gaining momentum.

Following the duo to the finish line were Rusty Schlenk as he nipped Steve Casebolt at the finish and Chinn.
The Modified finale was a heart-breaker for young Jacob Hawkins. The second generation driver was simply in a different time zone from the rest of the pack when disaster struck on lap 8.

Just as he was approaching John Brooks to put him a lap down, Brooks’ machine broke into a spin and Hawkins had nowhere to go. The car was destroyed in the melee and dashed his hopes of an opening night win.

Shaun Smith inherited the lead on the restart, but it only took two laps before multi-time feature winner Jeff Babcock moved to the front. He brought Jon Henry with him and the duo staged a battle to the finish.

Brian Post crossed the line third ahead of Smith, with Jamie Lomax completing the top five.

The Stock Car finale was filled with multiple cautions, in fact so many that the allotted curfew time expired and a surprised, but deserving, Rob Trent carried home the honors. At the time of the checkered flag, former champion Barney Craig was in second, with the top five declared to be Shawn Phillippi, Earnie Woodard and Jeff Koz.

Each of the top four finishers, had gone into the pits for quick repairs in earlier cautions, but were able to come back.

Hard Tire Choice Keys Madden's Victory In Inaugural 'Commonwealth 100' At Virginia Motor Speedway

JAMAICA, VA - April 17, 2010 - Chris Madden never had a tire choice pay off quite like he did on Saturday night at Virginia Motor Speedway. Bolting on hard-compound Hoosier rubber worked handsomely for Madden, who benefitted from the late-race tire problems of several rivals to capture the inaugural Commonwealth 100. Madden, 34, of Gray Court, S.C., pocketed $25,000 for his sixth career victory on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. It was his third win in as many appearances over the past three seasons at Bill Sawyer's pristine half-mile oval. "I love this place," said Madden, whose perfect record at VMS includes a triumph in last year's WoO LMS event. "I love the high speed. I love the configuration of the racetrack. It's got some character to it – it takes a different driving style just about every time you pull on the racetrack." Madden used a cool, calm approach to win the biggest race ever run at VMS. He experienced some anxious moments early in the 100-lapper when his hard tires fired slowly and he slipped from his outside pole starting spot to nearly out of the top 10, but those same tires allowed him to outlast his competition on a track surface that produced heavy tire wear.

Over the final 19 laps Madden watched the four drivers ahead of him all succumb to flat right-rear tires, culminating on a lap-91 restart when long-time race leader Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., dropped off the pace. Madden inherited the top spot and held off fellow Team Zero by Bloomquist Chassis driver Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., following a restart with two laps remaining to reach Victory Lane, where he was greeted with a flurry of revolver fire from a group of costumer Civil War reenactors. Owens, who also opted to run hard-compound tires, settled for second place, just 0.192 of a second behind Madden at the finish line. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., finished third in the Barry Wright house car, followed by former WoO LMS champion Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., who started 14th in his Valvoline Rocket, and 21st-starter Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., in the RSD Enterprises Rocket.

"I was worried at the beginning because we fell so far back," said Madden, who sat ninth when the first of the race's 12 caution flags came out on lap 16. "It's a little nerve-racking when you're going backwards. It's hard to sit in that seat and say, 'Well, just hang on, hang on, hang on, it'll be O.K.' But I did, I kept my patience, I didn't get in trouble, and it paid off at the end. Me and my guys decided that if we could be in the top five on lap 50, we had a shot at winning the race. At lap 50 we were right there (in seventh place) being very competitive. We knew we had a great car, so I was just trying to keep the tires on the car and be there at 100 laps."

After Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., signaled that tire wear would be an issue when he relinquished third place to a soft right-rear tire on lap 59, Madden overtook Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., for fifth on the ensuing restart. Madden then ascended to the front without having to pass a single car, picking up positions thanks to the flat right-rear tires suffered by Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa (lap 85), Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va. (lap 87) and Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis. (lap 91) – each of whom was running second when they were forced pitside – and, finally, Lanigan. "I looked at (Mars's) tires (during a caution period) and he had cords hanging out," said Madden, who became the eighth different winner in as many WoO LMS A-Mains this season. "I knew those guys were gonna pop. I was a little concerned about Lanigan because he was out front leading and was able to set the pace and keep his car good and straight, but with 10 to go we were right behind him and I didn't really have nothing to worry about. My car was great." The 38-year-old Owens, meanwhile, followed the same path as Madden en route to a runner-up finish worth $12,500. He started 11th and faded early in the race before advancing as his hard tires heated up, ultimately reaching second place on lap 97 when he overtook Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. That pass came moments before the race's final caution flag flew on lap 98 for fourth-place Covert's flat tire and McCreadie gave up third place during the caution period to replace his machine's popped right-rear.

"We took a gamble on tires," Owens said of his hard-compound choice. "At first I was really worried because we went straight back, but then I thought, 'You know, we'll just use our head and stay calm because I believe it's gonna be survival of the fittest.' There toward the end we had a lot more tire left than everybody, but we were just a little bit short. Congratulations to Chris – he had had a great car and a good run." Davenport, 26, passed Francis on the race's final restart to finish a WoO LMS career-best third. He felt fortunate to stand on the podium after struggling for much of the distance – he started ninth but faded backward and made a mid-race pit stop – and spinning around on the backstretch on lap 92 during a scramble to avoid Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., who slowed with a flat tire.
"We probably had a 20th- to 25th-place car," said Davenport, who wasn't required to restart at the rear of the field following his spin because the caution flag was charged to McCool. "I just kinda managed my tires and I found that top there at the end (to pick up spots)."

Finishing in positions 6-10 was 22nd-starter Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y.; 16th-starter Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, Wis., who pitted during a lap-81 caution period; Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., who used a provisional and started 25th after a B-Main tangle forced him to jump in his backup car; Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., who slowed with a right-rear flat tire on lap 81; and 26th-starter Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., who pitted to preemptively change a tire during a lap-59 caution period. Richards finished 12th, Lanigan settled for 14th and McCreadie placed 17th, tightening the WoO LMS points standings after the eighth event of 2010. Richards and McCreadie left the track tied for the points lead, with Lanigan trailing in third place by 42 points.

Darryl Hills of Great Mills, Md., and Mars were victorious in Saturday night's pair of 20-lap B-Mains. Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, N.C., marched forward from the eighth starting spot to win the 'Rumble on the River 30' Non-Qualifiers' Race. The young driver pocketed $3,000 after grabbing the lead from Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., on lap 10 and never looked back. Stone finished second, followed by D.J. Myers of Greencastle, Pa., Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, Md., who started at the rear of the field after pitting to replace a wheel that came off his car during the race's pace laps, and David Zona of Montrose, Pa.

The WoO LMS will be silent one weekend before heading to the Southeast for a doubleheader, visiting Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Fri., April 30, and Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway on Sat., May 1.

Drown holds off Schlenk, VanWormer for ALMS win; Weaver in exciting 305 victory
ATTICA, Ohio – While the cold temperatures and wind made for a chilly night Friday on True Value of Woodville Night at Attica Raceway Park Friday, the action on the track was very hot as Wooster, Ohio’s Doug Drown held off Rusty Schlenk, Jeep Van Wormer and Steve Casebolt to claim the opening feature win of the 2010 Sunoco American Late Model Series.

For the first 26 laps of the 30-lap late model feature it was Drown and Ryan Missler who swapped the lead, then sixth starter Schlenk got involved along with 10th starter VanWormer as they diced it out in lapped traffic. When the checkered flag flew, Drown held off Schlenk and VanWormer the last three laps for the win, his third career victory at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” venue. “Ryan went with 20s and I went with 30s and I’m thinking ‘okay it’s early on’…he did a great job and obviously Rusty coming through there and when I saw him I thought ‘here we go.’ I thought it was over and he was going to slide in front of me because I was losing all the bite..all the traction in the turns when I didn’t stay up top but we came through one way or another. I can’t say enough about my guys…we’re having a good time this year and having more fun and obviously we’re getting better results,” said Drown beside his Wooster Blass, D.J Directional Serices, Malcuit Racin Engines backed #12.

Not to be outdone, the Fremont Fence 305 Sprints put on a whale of a show with John Ivy, Mike Linder and late in the race, winner Paul Weaver slicing and dicing it out. Ivy led the first 16 laps of the 25 lap affair, battling Linder throughout. Then 8th starter Weaver entered the fray and took second on lap 13 and battled with Ivy before taking the top spot with a slide job exiting turn two on lap 17 to take the lead. But, Weaver had to hold off Linder, who used traffic to take the lead exiting turn four on lap 19, but Weaver, the defending track champion, used his experience to regain the top spot on lap 20 and held off both Linder and Ivy for his 23rd career win. “It seemed like we went back 20 years with us three running for the lead. Those are two guys I know I can run side-by-side with and trust them,” said Weaver, who now sits just two feature wins behind Linder for the all-time win lead in the division at ARP.

In there first appearance of the season, the Computer Man Dirt Trucks saw Risingsun’s Steve Endicott dominate the 15 lap feature to score his second career win. “We didn’t do a whole lot to this truck over the winter…a new motor and that was it,” said Endicott, the 2009 Fremont Speedway champion. “I want to thank Bob’s Machine Shop for a great motor and all my crew for helping me all winter and Bob’s (Dible) crew for helping me.”

In the late model feature, after a couple of bad starts that saw multi-car yellows, Missler, the defending Attica champion, bolted into the lead from his pole-starting spot with Drown, Ryan Markham, Jeremy Canada and Schlenk in tow. Missler, Drown and Markham would race nose to tail as Schlenk moved into four on lap 3 in the non-stop affair. Missler would use the extreme high side of the track to pull into lapped traffic by lap nine, as Drown would close with Markham comfortably in third with Schlenk, Steve Casebolt and Van Wormer waging a great race for fourth. Missler would methodically work his way through traffic, as Drown remained in striking distance while Markham had his hands full with Schlenk and VanWormer for third. Missler would chose the bottom to deal with traffic exiting turn two, and Drown pounced on the opportunity to drive to the outside and take the lead on lap 15. Missler wasn’t ready to give up, as he raced side-by-side with Drown in lapped traffic as Schlenk, VanWormer and Casebolt waited for a mistake. You could cover the top five with a napkin over the next few laps, and now Drown had to deal with traffic, as Missler raced side-by-side with him until sliding off the high side of turn two on lap 26. Now Schlenk, the opening night feature winner at ARP, would pressure Drown, who patiently followed lapped traffic on the high side. Several times Schlenk would pull along side of Drown, with Van Wormer right on both of their rear bumpers. With two laps to go, Drown was able to get a little bit of clear track and he held his line to score the win over Schlenk, VanWormer, Missler and Casebolt. “I learned from Ryan in lapped traffic…he was the first one there and he dove down low and I thought “I’ve got him.’ I learned a lesson there by his mistake…wasn’t really a mistake…when you’re leading you have to do what you have to do. They were just as fast as us so you have to stay in line as long as possible. I got into the one car which I apologize for…but it’s going for the win and you’re in lapped traffic three wide and you have to do what you have to do,” said Drown.

At the drop of the green in the 25-lap 305 feature, John Ivy grabbed the lead with Mike Linder right on his rear bumper with Brad Bowman not letting them get away while Junior Felver and Stuart Brubaker in tow. Linder would continually close on Ivy, but both were running the extreme high line while Bowman searched for a chance to pass. With seven laps in the books, Ivy, Linder and Bowman waged a terrific battle for the lead while 8th starter Weaver waited patiently in fourth. Ivy would enter lapped traffic on lap 12, along Linder to watch for an opportunity, while Weaver, who had moved into third on lap 10, closed. A lap later, Weaver would drive in hard on the bottom of turn three and steal second from Linder, who would tap Weaver’s rear bumper to remind him he was there. On lap 15, Weaver would attempt a slide job on Ivy exiting turn two for the lead, and would make it stick. However, Ivy and Linder were not done, as they diced and sliced through traffic side by side. Linder would actually drive under Weaver to lead at the stripe on lap 19, but Weaver would drive to the high side to regain the lead in turns one and two. Ivy would dive to Linder’s inside to wrestle away second on lap 21, but Linder would return the favor in traffic a lap later. Weaver, aboard his Genzman Enterprises, Level Performance, M&L Excavating, Schiets Motorsports backed #1w, would get a bit of a breather in traffic the last four laps to edge Linder for the win with Ivy, Nate Dussel and Bobby Clark rounding out the top five.
After a couple of mishaps to start the truck feature, Endicott would pull away strong in the lead, while a tremendous five truck battle ensued behind him with defending track champion Art Ball, Cory Ward, Dan Hennig and Alex Wiechman. As the race went non-stop the rest of the way, nobody had anything for Endicott, but Ball, Ward, and Wiechman would continue to race door-to-door for second. Wiechman would take third from Ward on lap 10 and drive under Ball for second a lap later. However, Ball would come back strong to regain the runner-up spot on lap 12. At the checkered Endicott had a 10 truck length advantage over Ball, Wiechman, Ward and a late race charger Brian Sorg.

Pearson Perfect On Opening Night Of Inaugural Commonwealth 100 Weekend At Virginia Motor Speedway

JAMAICA, VA - April 16, 2010 - Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., was perfect on Friday night at Virginia Motor Speedway, setting fast time and winning a heat race to open the inaugural 'Commonwealth 100' weekend. A banner field of 56 cars assembled for the blockbuster World of Outlaws Late Model Series event, which is highlighted by Saturday night's 100-lap A-Main that carries a $25,000 top prize from a total purse approaching $125,000.

Pearson, 38, flexed his muscle on Bill Sawyer's pristine half-mile oval, putting himself in position to sweep the weekend if he can capture the Commonwealth 100. His lap of 17.197 seconds (104.669 mph) in Ohlins Shocks/Massey Energy Time Trials was nearly three-tenths of a second faster than runner-up Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., and he led the first of six 15-lap heat races from start-to-finish. Driving the Bobby Labonte Motorsports MasterSbilt car, Pearson fended off several challenges from Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., to cop the preliminary. He will go for his third career win at VMS on Saturday night, but first in WoO LMS competition.

Also winning heat races were Lanigan, WoO LMS points leader Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., Chris Madden of Gaffney, S.C., Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., and Rick Eckert of York, Pa. They will join Pearson on Saturday night in a redraw for the top six starting positions in the Commonwealth 100. Madden, who won last year's 50-lap WoO LMS A-Main at VMS, scored the most hard-fought victory of the evening. He dueled for the lead with defending WoO LMS champion Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., for nearly half the distance before finally muscling in front on lap 10. Covert, meanwhile, was the night's most fortunate racer, escaping an opening-lap tangle that damaged his car's right-rear corner to win the fifth heat over two-time World 100 champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn. Covert has never won a WoO LMS A-Main but has finished as high as fourth in a tour event at VMS.

The evening's most significant incident occurred on the second lap of the fourth heat after 2008 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y., got sideways off turn two, collecting Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., 2009 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year Russell King of Bristolville, Ohio, and Roland Mann of Chaptico, Md. Mann's car executed a slow rollover after hitting King, but Mann – and all other drivers involved – escaped the crash uninjured. Two B-Mains, the 30-lap 'Rumble on the River' Non-Qualifiers (paying $3,000 to win) and the Commonwealth 100 will comprise Saturday night's racing program.

Competitor gates will open at 3 p.m. and spectator gates will be unlocked at 4 p.m. There will be a BB&T 'Meet and Greet' autograph session with the WoO LMS drivers from 5-6 p.m., and on-track activities will begin at about 6:30 p.m. with hot laps. A raindate of Sun., April 18, has been established for the event, which will include pre- and post-race ceremonies featuring Civil War reenactors. Saturday-only general admission is $40 (adults) and $15 (children 7-12).

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a half-mile dirt oval located on U.S. Route 17 in Jamaica, Va., eight miles north of Saluda and 25 miles south of Tappahannock. The speedway, which boasts spacious 8,000-seat aluminum grandstand, beautiful sponsor suites, Mucso lighting, a pit area treated with a tar-and-gravel mixture and over 20 acres of parking, is just a short drive from the Richmond, Fredericksburg, southern Maryland and Hampton Roads areas. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Civil War Reenactors Will Energize Pre- And Post-Race Scene During This Weekend's Commonwealth 100 At Virginia Motor Speedway
JAMAICA, VA - April 13, 2010 - The throaty roar of dirt Late Models won't be the only adrenalin-pumping noise that shakes the Virginia Motor Speedway grandstand during this weekend's inaugural Commonwealth 100.

Cover your ears, fans and competitors – costumed Civil War reenactors are returning to the half-mile oval to send off the starting field with piercing cannon blasts and greet the winner of the biggest race in track history with a flurry of revolver and rifle fire.
Reprising the unique pre- and post-race ceremonies that punctuated last year's World of Outlaws Late Model Series program at VMS, reenactors dressed in both Union and Confederate uniforms will provide fans an exciting added attraction themed on the rich history of the area surrounding Bill Sawyer's gorgeous dirt track. At least a half-dozen members of a Virginia-based Civil War reenactment group that portrays the 3rd Company Richmond Howitzers – one of the two most famous artillery units on the Southern side of the war – will participate in activities surrounding the final night of the Commonwealth 100 weekend on Saturday (April 17). Time trials and heat races for the $25,000-to-win event are scheduled for Friday night (April 16).

"We really enjoy being part of the show at Virginia Motor Speedway," said Keith Saunders, one of the reenactors who will return after performing at the track for the first time last year. "We're all race fans, so having a chance to do this is exciting for us."
Saunders will bring along the centerpiece of the reenactor group's pre-race routine: a powerful 1841 six-pound, smooth-bore cannon. A reproduction of the gun type that was used during the early stages of the Civil War, the cannon will be rolled onto pit road during driver introductions on Saturday night and prepared for blast-off by the reenactors.Expect the grandstand and surrounding countryside to reverberate with an ear-splitting explosion when the cannon is ignited. Anyone unaware of the impending explosion will have their heart skip a beat. Just ask Chris Madden of Gaffney, S.C., who won last year's WoO LMS A-Main at VMS.

"When we first rolled out on the track and I was lining up, that big cannon shot off and I went, 'Holy crap!'" said Madden, who is on the pre-registration list for this weekend's Commonwealth 100. "I jumped in my seat." The interesting reception that Madden received in Victory Lane will also be duplicated following the Commonwealth 100. After climbing out of his car he was flanked by the costumed soldiers, had a Civil War general's hat placed on his head and was feted by waving flags and loud, smoky gunfire from the reenactors' authentic guns. Saunders even jumped in on Madden's post-race interview, grabbing the wireless microphone and asking, "Where you from, boy?" When Madden answered that he hailed from South Carolina, Saunders, dressed in his Southern grays, said, "Then the Confederate gold is safe!" The accomplished Madden thoroughly enjoyed his Victory Lane appearance one year ago. "That was pretty cool," said Madden, who enters this weekend's action as a favorite for Commonwealth 100 glory having won in his last two appearances at VMS spanning the 2008 and 2009 season. "I’ve never seen anything like that before. That kind of stuff makes winning a race even more fun."

The historical tie-in of the reenactors to VMS comes because Virginia was at the center of America’s Civil War from 1861-1865. The city of Richmond, which sits less than a hour’s drive west of Virginia Motor Speedway, served as the capital of the Confederacy throughout the conflict, and the countryside slightly west of the track – stretching from Washington, D.C., through Richmond to Petersburg, Va. – and east of the Blue Ridge Mountains was the site of fierce fighting that took the lives of thousands of Confederate and Union soldiers. The area immediately around Virginia Motor Speedway itself harbors many historic Civil War sites, including the nearby Rappahannock River. Waterways like the Rappahannock in Virginia’s Tidewater Region played key strategic roles in the war, and there was ample troop movement on the ground near VMS throughout the conflict.

More than 60 drivers have entered or made plans to compete in the Commonwealth 100, which kicks off with time trials and qualifying heats on Fri., April 16. B-Mains, a 30-lap Non-Qualifiers' Race paying and the headline 100-lapper take center stage on Sat., April 17. A raindate of Sun., April 18, has been established for the event. Competitor gates will open each day at 3 p.m. and spectator gates will be unlocked at 4 p.m. There will be a BB&T 'Meet and Greet' autograph session with the WoO LMS drivers from 5-6 p.m. on Saturday, and on-track activities will begin both days at about 6:30 p.m. with hot laps. Boasting the third-largest first-place check of the season on the WoO LMS, the Commonwealth 100 offers $2,000 just to take the green flag. Add in the Non-Qualifiers’ Race that pays $3,000 to win from a purse of nearly $16,000, and the weekend's payout will be in the neighborhood of $125,000. Fans from 19 states and Canada have ordered tickets for the weekend. Two-day tickets are $50 (adults) and $20 (children 7-12), while Saturday-only general admission is $40 (adults) and $15 (children 7-12). Kids 6-and-under will be admitted free for the weekend, and two-day pit passes will cost $50.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a half-mile dirt oval located on U.S. Route 17 in Jamaica, Va., eight miles north of Saluda and 25 miles south of Tappahannock. The speedway, which boasts spacious 8,000-seat aluminum grandstand, beautiful sponsor suites, Mucso lighting, a pit area treated with a tar-and-gravel mixture and over 20 acres of parking, is just a short drive from the Richmond, Fredericksburg, southern Maryland and Hampton Roads areas

"We like coming up here and running in this Midwest area, that's what we've always said," said Batesville, Ark.'s Moyer, who has won plenty of races throughout the Midwestern states during a sparkling career that has spanned more than decades. "I just like the dirt up here. It's fun to race on."

Moyer, 52, also commented that the success of the third annual Illini 100 – a talent-laden field, standing-room-only crowd and charged-up, big-race atmosphere – proves that Illinois, in particular, should be hosting more major events.

"I'm telling you, the Midwest area is strong for Late Models," said Moyer. "It's as strong as anywhere right through this belt where we're at. If there was enough promoters who had the 'nads to step it up, this (a $20,000-to-win weekend spectacular) would happen more than in one place here.

"It's like Eldora over there (in Ohio) – people come to that and see a great race, and they came here and saw a great race. There's a lot of good racetracks through this belt, and (promoters) just gotta step it up, pay the races and the fans will come and racers will come."

HARD RACIN': Tim McCreadie spent the final laps of his impressive march forward from the 17th starting spot in a knock-down, drag-out battle for second place with Shannon Babb, the central Illinois hero who desperately craved a win in his homestate's biggest and richest dirt Late Model event.

Watertown, N.Y.'s McCreadie, who turns 36 today (April 12), nosed underneath Moyer for the lead a few times late in the distance but ended up spending more time dealing with Babb. They traded paint several times before Babb finished second and McCreadie settled for third.

"I've said it before, him and I race each other like we're related, like we're brothers – and it's not always a good thing," said McCreadie. "We race good together, but we race hard, and we bend sheet metal up on each other a lot.

"But that's the way it goes. He's a man, he can take it – and I can take it. I just wish we would've been racing for a 'w' rather than for second, because then him and I could've laughed about it later."

Babb was deeply disappointed after running so hard only to fall short in the Illini 100 once again. He even declined a request to participate in a top-three-finishers photo opportunity in Victory Lane with Moyer and McCreadie, preferring to return to his hauler to cool his emotions after giving a terse post-race interview over the public address system.

McCreadie understood what Babb was feeling after failing to win at his hometrack. "I know how this place is for him here – when we go back to New York, I'm on the chip about winning too," said McCreadie, who took over the WoO LMS points lead for the first time since finishing his 2006 championship season.

STILL TRYING: After pacing three laps (laps 44-46) of the Illini 100, Brian Birkhofer stands as the only driver who has led at least one circuit in all three editions of the big show.

Unfortunately, Birkhofer has yet to unlock the door to Victory Lane. He finished fourth on Saturday night, unable to seriously contend for the win after watching Babb and Moyer blow by him on a lap-46 restart.

"It was part tires and part my setup decisions," Birkhofer said of his difficulties in the 100-lapper. "I over-cut (siped) my tires, and after looking back at what we ran last year (he led 93 laps of the 100) we made a few changes that I thought would make us better but they didn't work out."

NO REPEAT: Shane Clanton's hopes of winning the Illini 100 for a second straight year took a big hit when he failed to qualify through a Friday-night heat (he was shuffled back on a restart) and a Saturday-night B-Main, forcing him to use a WoO LMS 'emergency' provisional.

But the Locust Grove, Ga., driver made a nice recovery in the A-Main to at least head home with a smile – although he still was a bit disappointed with an eighth-place finish.

Clanton, who started last in the 25-car field, actually closely followed McCreadie forward through the pack. When the race's first caution flag flew on lap 46, Clanton sat in 11th place right behind McCreadie. But moments before that caution flag flew Clanton's RSD Enterprises No. 25 was struck by a broken 'dummy' shock – the second shock positioned in front of the rearend on the left-rear of the car – and spent the remainder of the distance hampered by a bouncing wheel.

"I think I could run with McCreadie," said Clanton, "so if that shock doesn't break I think we could've been right there at the end."

MISSED IT: Defending DIRTcar UMP Late Model national champion Jason Feger wanted to give his hometrack fans – including the group that displayed a huge 'Feger Nation' banner from their perch in the drive-in section outside turn two – something to cheer about in the Illini 100.

But after winning a heat race on Friday night in impressive fashion, Feger drew the eighth starting spot for the A-Main and never really got rolling during the 100-lap affair. He was solid but not spectacular, climbing as high as fifth before settling for a personal-best Illini 100 finish of sixth.

"It seemed like we didn't have any doors open up for us," said Feger. "But I think we were too tight. We couldn't rotate like we needed to."

GROOVIN': Chub Frank (20th place finish) and Clint Smith (23rd) were never factors in the Illini 100 after transferring through heats on Friday, but they enjoyed themselves – and entertained many others in the pit area – with new toys they showed off after the qualifying night action.

Both drivers had full-fledged CD jukeboxes at the back of their trailers, setting the atmosphere with music for all their post-race visitors. Smith has been checking eBay to obtain one of the music-players for his buddy Tim Fuller, who is preparing to open a bar-and-grill in Edwards, N.Y., and ended up purchasing four of the machines. Two of the machines he found were located in Iowa, so WoO LMS Rookie of the Year contender Jill George, who returned to action at Farmer City after suffering a cut arm in a flip on March 26 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, picked them up and delivered them to Smith.

Frank bought one of the jukeboxes from Smith to put in the bar that's connected to his shop in Bear Lake, Pa., and Smith said he probably has a buyer for the one that he had rockin' in his trailer.

ETCETERA:

* The weather was absolutely perfect for a springtime race in central Illinois – easily the best conditions the Illini 100 has ever enjoyed. With crystal-clear skies prevailing both days, temperatures reached the low 60s on Friday before cooling off at night and topped 70 before settling into the low 50s/upper 40s on Saturday.

Not surprisingly, the weather helped draw the biggest grandstand crowd in the three-history of the event. There wasn't a seat to be found at the fairgrounds track on Saturday night.

* Defending WoO LMS champion Josh Richards left a racetrack without the tour's points lead for the just the second time in seven events this season, ceding it to McCreadie after finishing 10th. He trails T-Mac by 10 points after running in the top five for the first third of the event but then fading with a car that wasn't properly balanced.

* The Illini 100 was also a struggle for former series champions Darrell Lanigan and Steve Francis, who finished 17th and 19th, respectively. Lanigan used a provisional to start the A-Main after being set back by a right-rear shock that came loose on his car during Friday's heat action, while Francis qualified through a heat but got no higher than 10th (from the 15th starting spot) before some damage from a scrape left him struggling to circle the track for the remainder of the distance.

* Rick Eckert absorbed a rare DNF, retiring after 45 laps with terminal engine woes. He appeared on the verge of cracking the top 10 before his powerplant went south, leaving him with a last-place finish (25th) and dropping him from fifth to seventh in the WoO LMS points standings.

* Brady Smith, a former UMP Summer Nationals winner at Farmer City, appeared to be in position to challenge for Illini 100 glory when he ended up with the pole starting spot as the last driver to draw. But he was outgunned immediately at the green flag by green flag and never summoned enough speed to challenge for the lead, running third for the first third of the race before fading to seventh at the finish with a car that he termed "too free."

* It was a tough weekend for young WoO LMS travelers Austin Hubbard (finished 22nd after using a provisional for the second straight race), Russell King (failed to qualify and opted not to use an 'emergency' provisional to start the A-Main) and Brent Robinson (missed transferring through a heat by two spots and a B-Main by three).

Dellinger hits open stock jackpot

There was a chill in the air Saturday at Sharon Speedway but it didn’t stop the action from heating up on the Hartford oval. Alan Dellinger, open stocks, Mikey Hay, Stars Mod Lites and Mike Scharba, Hobby Stocks took home the top prize in their respective divisions.

With 60 cars filling the pit area for the third annual Stock Car Spectacular at Sharon Speedway Alan Dellinger was nothing short of spectacular setting the fast time in qualifying, pacing the 3/8 mile oval at 18.479 and picking up the Texas Connection $150 bonus. The top six qualifiers faced off in a dash determining the first six starting positions with Dellinger again leading the way followed by Rusty Martz, Bobby Whitling, Chris Withers, Chris Schneider and Nick Goss. With the field set for the 40-lap showdown Dellinger and Martz ran side by side into turn one and Dellinger’s 43 took the lead by turn two, never looking back. A battled ensued for the remaining positions throughout the final 39 laps as Martz, Jason Johns, a hard charging Tim Bish and Withers finishing out the top five.

Heat Winners: Jason Johns, Jackson Humanic, Chris Haines, Jamie Scharba and Bruce Redmond.
Consi Winners: James Boyer and Andy Buckley.

The Stars Mod Lites 20 lap event featured 24 cars with fourth place starter Mark Marcucci leading the first six laps before eventual winner Mikey Hay took the lead for good on lap seven. Rick Ament applied pressure to Hay throughout the second half of the contest as Jeff Teeters tried to make it a three car battle for the lead. Hay was able to hold off both challengers as his brother Matt Hay looked on from the fourth place position. Deerfield driver Kenny Meadows rounded out the top five.

Heat Winners: Matt Hay, Mikey Hay and Mark Marcucci.
Consi Winner: Shane Pfeuffer.

An entertaining Hobby Stock feature found John Shannon in command for the first seven laps until Mike Scharba was able to reel in the early leader. Scharba led the reaming five laps posting his second career victory in as many years. Shannon settled second place followed by young gun Jim Dandy III, aka Derek Dellinger, Nick Lucanski and Tim Gillette.

Heat Winners: Mike Scharba and Dillon Kineston.

The track will lay dormant for one week as the crew prepares to crack open our Six Pack program on April, 24 featuring the 410 Sprints, Big Block Modifieds, Emods, Limited Sprints, Pro Stocks and Hobby Stocks.

Sharon Speedway is located at the intersection of Routes 7 and 305 in Hartford, OH and is just a short drive from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Entering its 81st year of operation, Sharon Speedway is one of the oldest, continuously running weekly racetracks in the United States. The speedway is owned by NASCAR driver Dave Blaney, Jim Weller, Sr. and Ron Kirila. Racing begins in mid April and continues through September.

Moyer Turns Back Babb Again To Capture Illini 100 At Farmer City Raceway

FARMER CITY, IL - April 10, 2010 - Billy Moyer still has Shannon Babb's number in the Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway.

For the second time in three years the veteran star denied his former protégé's bid for an emotional hometrack victory, taming the tricky fairgrounds quarter-mile oval on Saturday night to capture the third annual World of Outlaws Late Model Series event before a standing-room-only crowd.

Moyer, 52, of Batesville, Ark., remained undefeated in the Illini 100 with a $20,175 triumph that closely mirrored his thrilling win over Babb in the inaugural race in 2008. While his victory margin wasn't quite as narrow as two years ago, Moyer grabbed the lead on lap 72 when Babb slipped over the turn-one berm while negotiating lapped traffic and then had to repel several frantic late-race challenges from the hard-charging Moweaqua, Ill., driver. "That was a lot of fun," said Moyer, who became the seventh different winner in as many WoO LMS A-Mains this season. "I like the kind of racetracks that you gotta chase like I did tonight. It was slick, and I think I ran every inch of it out there, every groove there was. That makes it fun for a driver, rather than just running in that one little spot."

Babb, 36, was a deeply disappointed runner-up after leading on three separate occasions during the highly-competitive event. Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., who started 17th, joined the lead battle with Moyer and Babb late in the distance but settled for third place, while Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, slipped to fourth at the finish after leading briefly before a mid-race caution flag and sixth-starter Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., placed fifth. "That's pretty ironic I guess, to run one-two like that again (with Babb)," said Moyer, who did not enter last year's Illini 100. "He's a good kid. We sat here (Moyer and Babb were parked side-by-side in the pit area) and shot the s--- all weekend. I like him from back in the day when he ran for us (Babb drove cars owned by Moyer's father) and we're still good friends."

Moyer, who started seventh, had his Victory Circle by Moyer car up to third place when the race's first caution flag flew on lap 46 for the engine problems suffered by Rick Eckert of York, Pa. Then Birkhofer, who had become the first driver to supplant Babb as the leader when he slipped in front on lap 44, got off slowly on the restart, allowing Babb and Moyer to move into the top-two spots as lap 47 was scored. Babb built nearly a straightaway edge over Moyer by lap 52, but less than a dozen circuits later the two drivers were in a battle for the lead. Moyer surged ahead to assume command on lap 64, but Babb split Moyer and a lapped car in turn three to regain the lead on lap 68. The lead changed hands for the fifth and final time in the event on lap 72 after Babb ran out of racing room as he attempted to go around a lapped car and slid over the turn-one berm in his Sheltra Construction Rocket, handing the top spot back to a shocked Moyer.

"He'd done that twice before and he saved it," Moyer said of Babb's momentum-killing misstep. "Shannon drove the wheels off that thing every lap – you got to give the kid credit for that – but he just missed it that time. He was just trying so darn hard I guess. When I seen him slip there, I wanted to get in there and close the door before he could get back down. But when I went by he still had two wheels out there (over the berm), so I was in the clear."

Not for long, however. By lap 80 Moyer was being challenged by McCreadie, whose charge from deep in the field in the Sweeteners Plus Rocket car reached second place when Babb slipped out of the groove, and Babb was regrouping for another assault. But even a final caution flag on lap 93 – for WoO LMS rookie Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., who stopped along the backstretch – couldn't stop Moyer from recording his WoO LMS alltime-best 36th career win. He took advantage of the paint-trading race for second between Babb and McCreadie to open up some breathing room before reaching the checkered flag ahead of Babb with about four car lengths to spare. "I just told myself, 'Don't make a mistake,'" Moyer said of the final restart. "You just can't bobble. I feel like I made two of them in those last seven laps, but it turned out good for us I guess. "We've raced against each other a lot and I know how (Babb) drives, so I just had to drive defensively," added Moyer, who registered his 14th WoO LMS win since 2004 and first since April 15, 2008, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. "That's just part of being around as long as I have. On that last lap I was ready for anything because I knew he was eager and he'd be right there, so I kinda drove three and four a little differently to make sure nothing happened."

Babb couldn't hide his dejection after falling short in his homestate's biggest and richest dirt Late Model event. He was terse with his post-race assessment of his defeat, complaining about his problems dealing with lapped traffic. "We had a really good car on that restart (on lap 46)," said Babb, who started from the outside pole. "We got by Billy and Birkhofer, and got the lead." But Babb's grip on the race was ripped away when he couldn't safely overtake a slower machine entering turn one on lap 72. He described his struggles trying to rally: "I lost four positions (before regaining speed) and had to try and come back, while those guys (lapped cars) are out there running that quarter-midget line from top-to-bottom. All in one lap they run the whole racetrack...I don't know, it's frustrating."

McCreadie, meanwhile, twice appeared that he might be in position to win, but circumstances dive-bombed his hopes. "We ran (Moyer) down (with 20 laps remaining) and I thought we might just roll right by him," said McCreadie, who turns 36 on April 21. "But then all of a sudden I kind of stalled out, and that was it. Then, when that yellow fell with about 10 to go, I thought, This is about the only chance I got. I knew we were gonna be good for about six laps, but I just never really got a chance to do anything."

That's because Babb darted to the inside of McCreadie on the lap-93 restart, stopping McCreadie's move on Moyer before it even started. McCreadie was able to nose underneath Moyer a couple times rounding turn two during the next two laps, but he ultimately spent too much time battling – and trading paint – with Babb to mount a last-ditch bid for the win. "The only thing I can think is that Shannon laid back about five or six car lengths (coming to the restart) to get the type of a run he did down the homestretch," McCreadie said of the final restart. "I never saw him until we went into one. I looked over and he was there, and that pretty much killed the run I had on Moyer. "I wish we could've had more fun racing for the lead rather than letting Billy get away from us like he did," added McCreadie, who took over the WoO LMS points lead. "Us racing together like that for the last five laps probably cost both of us a shot at the win."

Defending DIRTcar UMP Late Model national champion Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., finished sixth, falling short of a coveted victory in his hometrack's marquee event. Polesitter Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., gradually slipped backward during the 100 and placed seventh. Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., who used an 'emergency' WoO LMS provisional to start from the 25th spot, finished eighth despite running the final 60 laps with a broken 'dummy' shock on his car's left-rear corner; Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersvlle, Ill., was a steady ninth; and Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., completed the top 10 after starting fourth.

McCreadie and Tim Fuller captured Saturday night's pair of 20-lap B-Mains. Ironically, both WoO LMS regulars hail from Watertown, N.Y., and starred in the Northeast's DIRTcar big-block ranks before moving on to the full-fender division.

Tim Lance of Brimfield, Ill., captured the 25-lap Non-Qualifiers' Race. He pocketed $1,000 as a consolation prize for missing the Illini 100.

A huge two-week stretch for the WoO LMS continues on April 16-17 with the inaugural running of the Commonwealth 100 at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va. The two-day spectacular offers a $25,000 top prize from a total weekend payout of nearly $125,000.

Williamsburg, OH - 4-9-10-Brown County Chamber Night at Moler Raceway Park

Night number two of the racing season kicked off at MRP with Brown County Chamber of Commerce Night. While mother nature was kind enough to provide a beautiful sunny day it was a chilly night at the race track. In the Sunesis Construction Late Model Division it was a small but talented field of cars on hand. In heat race action it was Chad Stapleton and Lil’ John Whitney taking heat wins and setting the feature line-up. At the drop of the green flag it was Stapleton out front into turn one but 3rd starting Duane Chamberlain took the top spot and led the first eight laps in a fast and furious beginning. Chamberlain would break at the start of lap nine and Stapleton would retake the lead with Jason Jamison and a hard charging Wayne Chinn in tow. On lap 13 the leaders caught lap traffic and the resulting damage cost Stapleton the top spot. Jamison would lead from lap 13 on but for two laps it was Bradford, Ohio’s Wayne Chinn applying lots of pressure but he would succumb to mechanical difficulties. Jamison took the win in his Bert Transmission sponsored machine. Barry Doss would come home second with Jeff Alsip, Mike Meyers, and Tim Carpenter rounding out the top five positions.

In the Mt. Orab Ford Modified division there were 22 cars on hand and the heat race wins went to Weasel Rhoades and Dave McWilliams. In the 20-lap feature event it was McWilliams out front with Rhoades hot on his tail. On a lap eight restart things got exciting as fifth running Matt Hamilton made contact with the outside wall off of turn two and the top two cars made contact and stuck together in turn number four. On the restart it was “The Buzzard” Doug Adkins leading the field to the green with Randy Wash and Dave Jamison in tow. At the finish line it was Adkins taking his first win of 2010 in his Estes Racing Engines 239 Auto Group Sponsored Machine with Randy Wash getting his best career finish at MRP in second followed by Bill Keeler, Dave Jamison, and Jeff Arnold.

In the Holman Motor Chevette division it was another full field of cars on hand. In heat race action it was Derrick Davis, Jeff Watson, and Miles Tarvin taking heat race wins with Kevin Riggs winning the B-main event. In the feature it was Jeff Watson taking the lead at the start of the race but the scary moment took place on lap seven as Kris Parker took a nasty hit into the outside wall off of turn four. On the restart it was all Jeff Watson in his Harmony Salon, Rod-to-Wrenches Repair, Triple C Powersports race car. Sean Jones came home second with Miles Tarvin third and Josh Francis and Derrick Davis rounding out the top five.

In the US Race Gear Street Stock division it was much the same story as Jeremie Bretz continued his domination by taking the heat and feature wins in his H&H Continuous Guttering, Git-R-Done Graphics, Reis Garage machine. Bill Crabtree came home second with Scott Hess, Paul Baker, and Todd Anstaett rounding out the top five. April 16th will be a regular show followed by U.S. Race Gear Street Stock Special on April 23rd. April 30th will be Mt. Orab Ford UMP Modified Special $1000 to Win, plus all classes and DARF Night, DARF members in Free!! Saturday May 1st will be Mt. Orab Ford Race Car Expo, Noon to Five, rain or shine!!

Tri-State Modified Association releases 'Hot Summer Nights' Schedule

Tye Twarog, founder and organizer of the Tri-State Modified Association (TSMA) is pleased to release the TSMA 2010 'Hot Summer Nights' schedule of races for the Open Wheel Modifieds. "The 'Hot Summer Nights' isn't a traveling series" said Twarog. "This is just a way to recognize our sanctioned tracks who are providing attractive purses for our racers."
Currently, the TSMA has over 50 TSMA sanctioned races where the winner's share of the purse is $1000.
These 50+ races comprise the 'Hot Summer Nights', and can be found under the TSMA website under the "schedule" tab. All of these races also have an added TSMA provided perk, as American Racer will provide a free tire to all winners of the $1000 to win events, while Hoosier will provide a tire to winners of the $2000 to win events. "The ability to allow the modified racers a freedom of choice has been a key to the TSMA's success There's not a successful track operator that I've found that wants to turn cars away based on the name brands.  We've found success in  creating a sanction based on participation by all manufacturers. " Twarog stated.

Tom Partin's Brushcreek (OH) Motorsports Complex headlines the 2010 'Hot Summer Nights' events with the Aug. 6th and 7th running of the annual 'Heritage 101', with Saturday's feature again paying the winner's choice of a new Harley Davidson Heritage motorcycle or a whopping $10,000 winner's payday .

Ronnie Moran's Muskingum County (OH) Speedway has 19 Hot Summer Nights events on the track's 2010 schedule, while neighboring Midway (OH) Speedway promoter Chad Shipman has inked 6 events on his schedule, hi-lighted by an April 30th $2k to win show, with his season ending Oct 8th & 9th twin bill will pay $1000 & $1500 on consecutive nights.

June 8th will see the TSMA racers take on a trio of NASCAR veterans, as the Sharon (OH) Speedway hosts 'Nascar Night'.  Missouri neighbors Kenny Shrader, Kenny Wallace and the 'Buckeye Bullet' Dave Blaney will challenge the TSMA open wheelers in the evening's headliner.

Stateline (NY) Speedway will host 3 'Hot Summer Nights' events, with the July 31st race paying an impressive $5000 to the winner.  Fellow Empire State track, South Arcade Speedway also is on the schedule for 2010.

McKean County (PA) Speedway joins the list, with a Sept. 24th & 25th double header featured on their schedule.

Hometown Heroes Babb & Feger Outduel Outlaws On Opening Night Of Illini 100 At Farmer City Raceway

FARMER CITY, IL - April 9, 2010 - Shannon Babb and Jason Feger proved they're ready to keep the Illini 100 trophy in the Land of Lincoln. The two central Illinois hotshoes played starring roles during Friday night's qualifying program for the biggest and richest dirt Late Model event in the state of Illinois, winning heat races to position themselves well to chase the race's $20,000 top prize on Saturday night at Farmer City Raceway. "I'd really like to win this thing," said Moweaqua's Babb, who has finishes of second and fifth in the two previous runnings of the blockbuster World of Outlaws Late Model Series at the quarter-mile oval. "You couldn't ask for anything more exciting than winning a real big show at a track you grew up racing at."

After turning the fastest lap of the 50-car time-trial session at 13.009 seconds, Babb, 36, held off 2008 Illini 100 winner Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., to win the first of four 15-lap heat races. Babb's victory margin of less than a half car-length almost exactly matched the narrow distance he lost the inaugural Illini 100 to Moyer. "I was a little free on exit (from the turns)," said Babb, who drove the Sheltra Construction Rocket No. 18. "Billy was a little bit better, but he was smart enough not to push the issue because he knew we would both be in the (A-Main) redraw."

Feger, 31, of Bloomington ran his heart out to win the evening's third heat in his one-race-old Pierce Chassis machine. The defending DIRTcar UMP Late Model national champion overtook WoO LMS regular Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., for the lead on lap 10 and never looked back."I got a good run, drove it in hard (entering turn one) and it stuck," said Feger, who finished eighth in last year's Illini 100. "I think we have a real good car, but you don't know what can happen in 100 laps. We'll give it our best shot tomorrow."

Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, Wis., and Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., also won heat races. They will join Babb, Feger and the four runner-up finishers in the heats - Moyer, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, defending WoO LMS champion Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., and Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis. - in a redraw for the top-eight starting positions in the Illini 100 on Saturday night.Richards moved forward from the fifth starting spot to transfer through the stacked third heat, which included four former WoO LMS titlists. Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., also qualified by finishing fourth, while Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., fell one spot short and Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., finished ninth after pitting on lap one to replace a right-rear shock that had come loose on his car.Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., suffered the night's biggest heartbreak when he spun between turns one and two while holding third place on lap 13 of the second heat. His involvement in an original-start tangle bent his car's left-rear sheet and ultimately ripped a line of tread off his left-rear, leaving him to battle an ill-handling mount.

With a sparkling spring forecast calling for clear skies and a high temperature reaching 70, a huge crowd is expected to pack the fairgrounds track for Saturday night's Illini 100. The program, which kicks off at 6 p.m., includes two B-Mains, a 25-lap Non-Qualifiers' Race and the Illini 100 plus regular shows for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Pro Late Models.

MODIFIED TOUR RETURNING TO TRUMBULL COUNTY FAIR
Officials of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour and the Trumbull County Fair Board are pleased to announce that the Modifieds will return to Expo Speedway on Thursday, July 1. The event will be part of the Trumbull County Fair. Although some details remain to be negotiated, the race will likely feature an early starting time and will be run under natural light. "I love fair races," said Modified Tour President, Lou Long. "There is something special about the carnival atmosphere and auto racing has long been a staple of fair entertainment," he added. No doubt, the King Brothers Racing Team will be extatic about the return engagement. Three time and defending Champion Rex King, Sr. and his older son, Russell (now a World of Outlaws Late Model Series racer) have won the previous two Modified Tour races at the Cortland, OH track. Maybe Rex King, Jr. can grab his first career Modified Tour win at the big oval that is, figuratively, in his own back yard. The 2009 race was cancelled due to rain.

RACECEIVERS MANDATORY FOR ALL EVENTS The BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour joins the growing list of sanctioning bodies and speedways that will require the RaceCeiver one-way radio communication system for all of its events. “The RaceCeiver system has proven itself to be beneficial to the racers,” said Race Director Bill Bauer. “It allows for communications regarding dangerous conditions on the track or problems with the cars and it facilitates alignment of the cars whenever a caution occurs,” he explained. “This should improve the quality of the program for our fans and promoters as well, he added. “Three of the speedways participating in the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour have used the RaceCeiver system for several seasons, so most of our racers are familiar with the technology and already have it available to them,” added Modified Tour President Lou Long. “We have simply expanded the scope to all of our races.” The Modified Tour has acquired the necessary equipment to operate the RaceCeiver system at those tracks on the Tour that do not currently use it. A limited number of RaceCeiver units will be available for purchase or lease at all Modified Tour events. The Modified Tour, Inc. would like to thank the 2010 series sponsors: Bicknell Racing Products; Hoosier Racing Tire Corp.; Sunoco Racing Fuel - Bazell Oil Co., Inc.; World Racing Group - DIRTcar; Approved Toilet Rentals, Inc.; Behrent’s Speed Center, Inc.; Bert Transmission; Big Daddy's Speed Center Inc.; Engles Trucking Services, Inc.; Bilstein Shocks – Fastline Performance; Fast Axle, LLC; Frankland Racing Supply; ISC Racers Tape; Hall's Safety Equipment Corp.; Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Inc.; King Brothers; Kirkey Racing Fabrication Inc.; Landrum Spring; McCool's Signs and Graphics; Motorsports World; Oyler Photos & More; Pennsylvania Army National Guard; Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP; Preist Enterprises, Inc.; Pro Shocks; RaceQuip; Ray's Racing Collectibles; Red Bear Hand Cleaner; Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants; Slippery Rock Sportswear; Smokey's; SpeedBear Fasteners; Turbo Start Batteries; Ultra-Shield Race Products; Valken Wheels; Wedge Motorsports, LLC; Winters Performance Products Inc.; and Wrisco Industries Inc. MODIFIED TOUR PART OF HILLBILLY WEEKEND AT WVMS Officials of The Modified Tour, Inc. and Mountain State Motorsports Promotions, LLC, along with renowned promoter Carl Short, are pleased to announce the addition of the Big Block Modifieds to the prestigious Hillbilly 100 weekend at West Virginia Motor Speedway. The cars and stars of the BRP/Hoosier Modified Tour will get two cracks at the big track located in Mineral Wells, WV over the Labor Day weekend. Plans call for two complete programs capped by thirty lap features on Friday, September 3, and Saturday, September 4. Each race will pay $1,500 to win. Every one of the thirty cars starting the features will receive at least $225. "We are really excited about this event," said Modified Tour President Lou Long. He started thinking about a two-day program for West Virginia last season, when the Modified Tour lost its Mountaineer 40 to rain, "I spent plenty of time that afternoon talking with Dan Patterson about the concept, and he was receptive to it." At the time, Patterson was part of the BDS promotional team that operated a different track in the Mountain State. "Little did I know that the idea would blossom into this," Long added. "We enjoyed working with the Modified Tour and had great success in the first two races we promoted," noted Brian Ferrell, another member of the BDS group. BDS became Mountain State Motorsports, LLC when the principals moved to their new venue. Ferrell continued, "we knew that we wanted to bring the Modifieds to our new track and we thought that adding them to the Hillbilly weekend would be a great fit." He concluded, "we are looking forward to growing this event in the years ahead." The Modified Tour, Inc. would like to thank the 2010 series sponsors: Bicknell Racing Products; Hoosier Racing Tire Corp.; Sunoco Racing Fuel - Bazell Oil Co., Inc.; World Racing Group - DIRTcar; Approved Toilet Rentals, Inc.; Big Daddy's Speed Center Inc.; Engles Trucking Services, Inc.; Hall's Safety Equipment Corp.; King Brothers; Priest Enterprises Inc.; Wedge Motorsports LLC; Behrent's Speed Center Inc.; Bert Transmission; Bilstein Shocks - Fastline Performance; Fast Axle, LLC; Frankland Racing Supply; ISC Racers Tape; Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Inc.; Kirkey Racing Fabrication Inc.; Landrum Spring; McCool's Signs and Graphics; Motorsports World; Oyler Photos & More; Pennsylvania Army National Guard; Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP; Pro Shocks; RaceQuip; Ray's Racing Collectibles; Red Bear Hand Cleaner; Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants; Slippery Rock Sportswear; Smokey's; SpeedBear Fasteners; Turbo Start Batteries; Ultra-Shield Race Products; Valken Wheels; Winters Performance Products Inc.; and Wrisco Industries Inc. AMB Scoring & UFo/ULMS/DIRTcar/FASTRAK/TSMA/UEMS/BRP Tour at PPMS in 2010!
(March 10, 2010) With the start of the 2010 season fast approaching, Miley Motor Sports have finalized several exciting programs for the 2010 season at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway. Transponder scoring will be implemented at PPMS in 2010 and special event as well as weekly sanctioning has been determined. PPMS has finalized the installation and purchased the equipment to do AMB electronic scoring in 2010. AMB scoring will also allow competitors to have access to a program to get all their lap times. This will require all teams to have a transponder mounted in a designated area on their car (see rule book) starting with opening day. As we did with Raceceivers, Miley Motor Sports and AMB have worked together to set up a lease to purchase program for competitors to take advantage of if they wish to do so. Teams also have the option to buy the transponder outright at a discounted price. Several competitors may already own one from racing at other tracks requiring AMB units. In that case the race team will just register their AMB unit with PPMS. The purchase price for the rechargeable unit will be $428, which will include tax and shipping or the unit can be leased to buy for $58 an event, for 8 events making the total cost $464. Rentals will be available for the occasional competitor for $25 an event but money will not go towards purchase. The trophy classes only, will be able to do a lease to own plan for $29 an event for 16 events, making the cost $464. AMB Units should be available for purchase at Miley Truck Rental in Carnegie by Thursday March 11, 2010. Credit cards can be accepted only at Miley Truck Rental currently. While having an initial cost, transponder scoring along with RACEceiver communication has proven to save money for all race teams over the course of the season. The two systems allow for quicker realignment of the races saving in gas and other mechanical costs on the cars, as well as better warning to the race teams to avoid on-track incidents.

UFo Race Championship and United Late Model Series Super Late Model challenge races will headline the 2010 special events. PPMS is the only track on the 2010 schedule to date where the two series face off. The "F-2 Shockwave" on May 15, "Red Miley Rumble" on July 24, "PENNational" on August 28 and "The Pittsburgher" on September 17-18 will be UFo vs. ULMS events. UFo has announced a year-end point fund of over $18,000 based on 15 completed events with no membership fees to the drivers. Drivers in the Super Late Model, E-mod, Cadet, Hobby & Young Gun classes will once again be able to compete for DIRTcar regional and national points. Drivers in the E-mod class will also be able to earn TSMA points on the 7 open tire rule events at PPMS in 2010. As previously announced, FASTRAK will sanction the crate motor late model division in 2010. Drivers have the option to join these sanctions to be eligible for sanction points and year-end sanction point funds.

The BRP Mod Tour for Big Block Modifieds is scheduled to make their 2010 appearance at PPMS on Saturday, May 29 for Modisaurus-X2. The 410 Super Sprints will also return to PPMS on Saturday July 10 for an open competition championship. The United E-mod Series is scheduled to make 2 appearances at PPMS on May 29 and at "The Pittsburgher." Open practice is scheduled for Saturday, March 27 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM with a rain date of Sunday, March 28. The 2010 season opener is set for Saturday April 3 featuring DIRTcar sanctioned Super Late Models, E-mods, Cadets, Hobby and Young Guns as well as FASTRAK Late Models. Each division has at least 2 special events on the 2010 schedule. The insane Figure-8's will return 4 times this year. Free admission nights for surrounding area counties and states highlight the exciting special promotions for 2010.
