HILLTOP SPEEDWAY
Work continues at Hilltop Speedway in preparation for this Fridays Grand Opening that will feature Late Models, Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Mini Stocks. To commemorate this special event track owner Jeff Norris will be presenting very special and one of a kind trophys that will honor every feature winning driver as the first in over thirty years to claim a win.
Hilltop Speedway has come a long way since work began late last year and while there is still some rough edges the lighting and sound systems are complete, concessions are being readied, and ample bench seating is in place for this weekend. Additional lighting is currently being installed pitside and many tons of gravel is being spread across driveways, seating, and walking areas. Greenery and landscaping is currently in the planning stages and may take some time, it may not be pretty but we are definately ready to race.
Speaking of the racing, the track should provide lots of action as it is wide and high banked. Turns one and two are a long sweeping full left turn where drivers are expected to stand on the gas peddle and down the mid length back stretch and into turns three and four which is considerably a tighter corner. We hope drivers will use the entire surface in this area and show off to fans three wide racing action. Cars also enter and exit the pits at three and four providing fans a great view of pitside activities and easy access to their favorite drivers.
Along the frontstretch there is not a bad seat in the house, "rustic" bench type seating on a small terraced hillside with wide spacing between rows for all your gear and the kids to play without bumping into and bothering your neighbors. Lawn chairs will fit over the benches if you desire, there is also room for lawn chairs toward the end of the front stretch, when landscaped this area will be nice enough to just throw down a blanket and watch the races picnic style. I almost forgot, so far there is about a dozen new picnic tables along the top of the hill. The design is to provide a family atmosphere, like I said earlier it is still a little rough but that goal will soon be accomplished.
Stay tuned to this page as I will have daily updates up until raceday !
