Check it out, a dirt late model turning laps on the Hilltop. Critics say it will never happpen while others say it is too crude. I got a chuckle out of the idea to sell lawn chairs but Im pretty confident Hilltop will race on time, weather permitting. Now please understand Lakeville is neat as a pin, Hilltop isnt. Wayne County attracts a stellar field of race cars, while reports are good that is yet to be seen on the Hill. This is a dirt track currently being brought back from ruins and that will take time . Race fans will have to endure Porta Pots and limited concessions during this inaugural year and chances are some things will just plain go wrong, your patience is requested in 2006.

Blaine Aber smoked off some pretty impressive laps during his test session turning a best time of 15.75, track officials are hoping to bring times into the high 13 second bracket. The track was dry with some rough spots while Abers Rayburn was running a WCS setup that was too soft on the right side for the higher banked Hilltop, I have no doubt when this track comes into its prime some very fast lap times will be recorded leading to some very exciting races.

The response from the racing community concerning Hilltop has been tremendous. Many regional and a few nationally known dirt racers have inquired about the 2006 season and there are dozens who stop by every week to check on progress . This little bullring has created so much excitement far before the first green flag ever waves.

Here is something else to look forward to in 2006, the Modified division is no longer a support class. These guys are HEADLINERS and between Wayne County and Hilltop Speedway race fans are going to get a whale of a show. Rory Reed has always been a fan favorite and returns stronger than ever in 2006 and is looking forward to competing at Hilltop. It was only right to invite the # 88 to participate in Hilltops shakedown because not only is he a great competitor that adds a lot of excitement to any event, but Rory Reed and his team make racing fun for everyone involved and that is what Hilltop Speedway is all about.

Rory dusts the track high and low in search of a fast groove and just plain had a blast during this test session. More gear and higher rpm's was his decision afterwards and the bottom groove was deinately fast. These at speed laps showed track personnel where work needed to be done and the high banks are hoped to provide foot to the floorboard racing. The track surface is a priority and a bed of orange clay has been located. Discussion of track sealers that create a dry slick surface has been considered but it seems a monster gumbo clay is most desired by Hilltop Speedway staff. With a little trucking help I think that may happen. Please remember only the basics are done, Hilltop will see many changes as it grows. |
