Hilltop Posts Awards
January 5, 2007

Millersburg OH – Hilltop Speedway celebrated a very exciting and successful second year in operation and presented the top ten in each of the five racing divisions with a trophy and an award, along with paying respect to everyone that contributed to making Hilltop Speedway one of Ohio’s most talked about and thrilling dirt tracks. Close to 300 people packed the American Legion Banquet Hall in Loudonville Ohio and enjoyed a great dinner, fine beverage, good music, and the ceremonies led by Race Director Ed Fredericks and Track Announcers Bob Sigler and Andy Dice. Everyone had a great time.

Finishing tenth thru sixth in the Holmes Tire Inc. sponsored Mini Stock division were Kevin Markey, Ernest Fortune who also claimed Rookie of the Year, Dustin Hostetler in eighth, an always hard charging Jason Theil next , and Bo Yarnell who will step up to Pure Stocks next year taking sixth in points. Edging into the top five with four feature wins is Tom Ogle of Wooster followed closely by friend and teammate Charlie Ray in fourth. Ray was on a hot streak with back to back wins and a sure contender for the championship when a violent car fire temporarily broke his momentum. Despite numerous car problems Jeremy Hudson overcame adversity and almost always managed to find himself in the top ten at the end of the night to finish third in overall point standings. Always soft spoken pit side but making a lot of noise on the track, Dusty Lint claimed three heat wins, started all but two features and twelve times made the top ten when the checkers fell to the delight of a large and dedicated fan following. Lint powered his camouflage painted # 87 Escort GT to a career best second in points.

Win or lose, at the end of the night no one had a bigger smile on their face than our 2007 Mini Stock Track Champion, Josh Hershberger. His ultra sharp # J66 Honda carries sponsorship from Holmes Tire Inc., Hershberger Trucking, Snyder Hotshot, and 3C Salvage and recorded a hard earned feature win in front of a full ASCoC Speed Week crowd, recorded 15 top tens and four top fives. It was also noted that Hershberger claimed “Most Improved Driver” along with this years championship after finishing 2006 in eleventh, and his speech included thanks to all his sponsors, his dad, all his many friends including Jeremy Hudson who sparked his interest in racing.

Hilltop Speedway is a 1/3 mile high banked dirt track located near Millersburg Ohio and features Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Mini Trucks every Friday night. Find out what everyone is talking about !

2008 Hilltop Speedway Racing Schedule

Hilltop moves to a two day schedule and Mini Stocks will race Saturdays, will this format stick ? The Mini Stocks will race along with Mini Trucks and Limited Late Models and force teams to decide between Hilltop and Wayne County should they actually open in 2008. Hopefully the folks in charge at the Millersburg oval will reconsider and return to the Friday night format that was so successful last year and also let our 4 bangers run some special shows with the Super Late Models.

The regular Friday night season opens on April 11 featuring Super Late Models, Modifieds, and Pure Stocks. The MACS, IRS, and Lucas Oil Series will race Hilltop and several specials for Modifieds and Pure Stocks are also scheduled. For the Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, and Mini Trucks the season begins on April 12 and we also have a few specials on the schedule, the Holmes Tire Inc. Mini Stocks race for a $400 jackpot on May 16, $500 on July 25, and again on September 20 for $600 to win !

The complete schedule is up on the Hilltop website and it looks great, we just hope the support for a two day program is there, either way the J66 will be back in action and after a second Hilltop Speedway chanpionship !
